It's Father's Day, and I miss Dad...
Dear John, Today is Father's Day. For me, it's a great day and a hard day all at the same time; I miss my dad. | |
I love this picture of Dad and me holding hands. It brings back powerful memories, and good ones. I know I am lucky and blessed. Not everyone has memories like mine.
In fact, Dad didn't. His dad died when he was 5. In my whole life I don't remember Dad talking about his dad even one time. I don't think he really had any strong memories of his father.
After Dad passed away, I reflected on the picture of Dad and me holding hands. I wondered: How did Dad hold hands so readily if he never remembered his dad, and he never really had a role model who held his hand?
As I reflected on this, I realized the answer was really very simple, and classic Dad: Dad made a decision to become the best dad and the best husband he could be. He followed that decision with the choice to take action, so he read hundreds of books on the subject and invested thousands of hours studying God's word.
You see, when you choose to fill your mind with the good, the clean, the pure, and the positive about being the right kind of husband and father - you become the dad who holds hands.
Yes, today is Father's Day. If you can, hold your dad's hand. If you can't, become the person who holds hands — because the best place for your hand is in the hand of someone you love.
Choose To Win,
