Holding Planned Parenthood Accountable
In 2020, Congress specifically crafted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to ensure none of the bill’s funding could be used for abortion. However, since the COVID relief package passed, Planned Parenthood has received over $20 million in CARES funding.
This week, I joined my Senate colleagues in calling for an investigation into how this happened. The nation’s largest abortion provider should have never received federal funds from the CARES Act, and I won’t stop fighting until we get to the bottom of how this happened.

Fighting For Affordable and Reliable Energy
In South Carolina and across the country, Americans are paying sky high energy bills, brought on by President Biden’s radical climate agenda and record inflation. The Biden administration’s EPA recently announced another unlawful regulation which raises energy costs and weakens our energy grid. The “Clean Power Plan 2.0” effectively shuts down vital parts of our electricity supply, intensifying the energy shortage the United States is already facing.
I joined my Senate colleagues in writing a letter to the EPA, urging it to withdraw the plan and stop attacking American energy. The American people deserve affordable and reliable energy, not higher energy costs.

Intern With My Office
I am now accepting applications for internships in my Washington, D.C., North Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville offices for the fall of 2023. Every year, young people from South Carolina and around the country have the opportunity to get involved in their government by interning in one of my offices. The internship program offers undergraduate and graduate students the chance to work with public service professionals and gain practical experience in constituent services, government policy, and more. Students of all majors, particularly those studying governmental affairs, public policy, or communications, are welcome to apply.

Spilling the Sweet Tea on Faithful Service
Matthew 25 reminds us to take care of the weak and hurting. In 1952, Sister Brogan devoted herself to this calling, beginning a long tradition of service to her community. For 71 years, she brought a listening ear and compassionate care to her patients and colleagues. As she goes into a well-earned retirement, Sister Brogan leaves behind a rich legacy of what a faith-filled life looks like. St. Francis Health System won't be the same without her faithful gospel presence.
