Honoring Our Veterans & Military Family Members

Today is the day that we, as a country, remember the sacrifices that veterans and their families have made in the defense of our nation. Veterans have paid, and continue to pay, the price for the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans. If or when they return home, it can be with wounds both visible and invisible — almost no one returns unscathed. We owe veterans and their family members our deepest gratitude and respect.

Veterans in Oregon have continued to serve our state and communities. They ran for office and helped Democrats get elected both locally, statewide, and at the national level, both in Congress and the President.

I am so proud of the veterans, family members, and allies who are members of the Democratic Party of Oregon Veterans Caucus. We mobilized and held seven phone banks in support of fellow Air Force veteran and Congressman Peter DeFazio and made calls on behalf of Secretary of State-elect Shemia Fagan, Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, Treasurer Tobias Read, and State Representative Marty Wilde. Our members joined with veterans and volunteers throughout the state to work hard on critical campaign across Oregon.

I am grateful that with the election of President-elect Biden, we will have a President who understands at his core that duty, honor, country, and sacrifice are the part of the character and fiber of veterans who have served past and present. President-elect Biden knows more than any recent President, what is to see a loved one serve far away in dangerous and hostile parts of the world, and the anxiety military families can feel at that time.

Today is the day to remember those who have served and their family members who have sacrificed so much. If you are a veteran, thank you for your service and sacrifices. If you are a family member of a veteran, thank you for the sacrifices you made and endured when your loved ones were serving to keep us safe and to defend our freedoms.
