Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Hope You had a Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is a time to spend with friends and family. This Thanksgiving, we had the opportunity to reflect on the many blessings we received from the Lord. Family, friends, and traditions are some of my favorite things about this holiday. However, there’s one thing that can’t be missed, and that’s good ol’ southern-cookin’. It is my prayer that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones! Blessings! Helping Our Farmers The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently announced a proposed rule that would have a major impact on the poultry industry. When it comes to our national food security, the poultry industry is significant, especially in South Carolina where broilers are the top agricultural commodity. I joined a bipartisan group of 16 Senators in penning a letter urging the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to extend the rule’s comment period on behalf of our nation’s farmers. Read more about our letter here! It is Time for Accountability Earlier this year, Washington Democrats allocated tens of billions to supersize the IRS, an agency with a history of political bias and power abuse. Senate Republicans are trying to put a stop to this. Recently, I along with Senators John Thune (R-S.D.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and 12 of our Senate Republican colleagues introduced the IRS Funding Accountability Act. Our bill, if passed, will give Congress a direct say in how this funding will be spent. Read more about our bill here! Spilling the #SCSweetTea on Giving Back This week, I am spilling the #SCSweetTea on a couple who gave back to their community. This holiday not only reminds us to be thankful for the blessings we receive, but also gives us the chance to be a blessing to others. Chris Singleton and his wife purchased sneakers and socks for the local High School basketball team, which happens to be the same high school Chris attended in his youth. To whom much is given, much is required. I am thankful for the members of our communities who give back to those around them, like Chris Singleton and his wife. Read more about how their story here! Sincerely, |
