Designers don’t often have themselves as a client. But for Anthony Maiolo, director of Sydney architectural practice Luxitecture, it was the scenario he’d long been preparing for. The project was the renewal of his home, a 1930s California bungalow in the city’s inner-west. The partially renovated two-level property was purchased in 2018. For the next five years, Anthony lived in the home as it was with his partner, Cecilia, but never lost sight of his vision to reconfigure the layout. The plan was to make it more conducive to contemporary living by opening up the ground-level living spaces and providing a stronger connection to the garden. Tactile and tonal interiors set against a neutral base palette would further add to the appeal. |
