AIMING HIGH: With Republicans expected to take control of the U.S. House as a result of the midterm elections, Rep. Steve Scalise of Old Jefferson indicated Wednesday he will continue his bid to be majority leader. But there was some speculation he might go for House speaker against Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California, who failed to deliver enough seats to satisfy all in the GOP caucus. MISSING MONEY: The FBI is reviewing evidence that the former pastor of St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic Church in New Orleans, who was removed from his post after being accused of raping a child years earlier while assigned to a different parish, misappropriated almost $400,000 in church funds. SHIPWRECK: Down a gravel road being overtaken by grass, obscured by a line of trees and across from a sandy bank, another shipwreck has emerged from the low waters of the Mississippi River. Unlike the others, however, this rediscovery hasn't inspired moments of curiosity and wonder for everyone; instead, it has brought back memories that many in Donaldsonville would rather have left forgotten under the Big Muddy's waters: l'affaire Le Pelican.
