The debate around monuments continues to rage all around, but it shouldn't detract from the larger conversation that Black Live Matter has been pushing into the spotlight for years, namely that the current prison industrial complex exploits Black people and that needs to stop. If you are interested in looking at some of the interesting conversations circulating around the topic of monuments, then I suggest taking a serious look at Monument Lab out of Philadelphia, where for years they've been debating monuments and commissioning work by contemporary artists to address this very issue.
