If you ask a farmer to define sustainability, most likely they will tell you that it means passing the farm on to the next generation. Here's what that looks like on our family's Nebraska operation.
| | | | Straight-From-The-Farmer Sustainability Perspectives | | Happy August! With farmers across the country busy with their herds, crops and fields, I’m extra grateful for producers such as Debbie Borg. Debbie took time to share her perspective with us on how diversifying her operation has increased its sustainability, in all forms of the word. Debbie serves as a farmer ambassador and Conservation Steward for America’s Conservation Ag Movement (ACAM). Our ACAM team just had its first in-person event in Flora, Ind., hosted by Jason and Jodi Oyler at their multi-generation family farm, together with our local Conservation Steward farmers Keith Mears and Brian Scott. It was an amazing day of conversation, camaraderie and cooperation -- all in service to local farmers, supporting them in their conservation agriculture journeys. It was fabulous to hear what is on producers’ minds right now. (Here’s a big hint: I was asked “what’s up with this regenerative agriculture thing?” at least a dozen times). Progress is palpable across the country. At Trust In Food™, we’re honored to play a part bringing climate-smart, regenerative agriculture into the mainstream. How can we help you bring the power of first-person producer perspectives into your work in this space? Yours In Regenerative Ag, Amy Skoczlas Cole Executive Vice President Trust In Food™, a Farm Journal initiative

| | | | Translating Pressure Into Progress For A Better Beef System | | Shared by Drew Slattery, human dimensions of change lead, Trust In Food: In the summer of 2021, Trust In Food undertook a national survey of beef producers to learn how they view and value sustainability-related issues, as well as to what extent they are implementing sustainability-focused management practices. We had over 900 respondents complete the survey from more than 40 states. Here are two key opportunities to advance beef sustainability, as identified by insights from these producers. | | | |

| | | | How Farm Diversification Adds To Sustainability | | Shared by Debbie Borg, Nebraska farmer and ACAM Conservation Steward, Nebraska: Sustainability is such a buzz word today and means so many different things to different people and industries. And now we have to talk about climate-smart ag, too! But I believe if you ask a farmer, most likely they will tell you that sustainability means passing the farm on to the next generation. Here's how we are working toward these objectives on our farm operation. | | | |

| Water And Climate: The Opportunity Before Us (via The Walton Family Foundation) | Shared by Nate Birt, vice president, Trust In Food: In a new position paper, The Walton Family Foundation identifies opportunities to jointly respond to a changing climate and water quality concerns across the U.S. It also spotlights its own research study of the American public illustrating that deep concern for addressing both issues is shared across political parties - a bright light of unity in a divided time. That alone should inspire farmers and the sustainability community to keep at it. Your work matters, and our family, friends and neighbors are looking to you to be part of the solution.
