Princess Weekes, Assistant Editor of The Mary Sue, will take a Black Widow dive into the history of female comic book/superhero movies starting with Jane Fonda's Barbarella before going into Wonder Woman and our hopes with Captain Marvel. The show will explore the common tropes in these films through a feminist, pop culture lens as well as why it took so long to get these movies done and done right. Plus representation issues (why is Storm still not done right guys?). As always, the show is guaranteed to bring a fresh perspective and a few side splitting laughs while promoting a healthy camaraderie among attendees.

Captain Marvel is going to launch a new phase in this crazy Marvel world and that's exciting, more exciting and important than these banal hot takes and mediocre trolling give the movie credit for.

Brett Kavanaugh and the Relationship Between Sexual Violence and Opposing Reproductive Rights

Handmaids Tale protestors at Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court Confirmation hearing
Sexual violence and opposing reproductive rights go hand-in-hand; they always have. Sure, that’s not to say there aren’t plenty of “pro-choice” men out there who have committed sexual assault, but an ideology that says women do not have the right to choose to not be pregnant is constructed around the very same disregard for women’s rights to safety and autonomy that underlie sexual assault.

Where My Girls At? Teen Dramas Need to Do Better With Black Female Characters

gossip girl
I recently began to reexamine all of the teen dramas that I have watched over the course my life, realizing that they all have the same pattern of leaving Black women out. They are invisible and underrepresented in this massive genre.

Hey DC, Where’s the Etta Candy TV Series?

Lucy Davis as Etta Candy in DC and Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman
Give us more female-led projects, DC, because as established, that's what people tend to like in your franchise.

Why More Female-Led TV Shows, but Not More Movies, Marvel?

Brie Larson as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel
Marvel sure likes to pretend to be female positive but continue to push their female heroes to the side. News that Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg would be heading a female-led series for Disney's upcoming dedicated streaming service seems promising, but it brings up a really good question: Why is Marvel afraid of women leading movies?

They also noticed that there was one wall of the restaurant that was completely blank.
