Microsoft apps for Mac at risk of code injection attacks

Affected apps include Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and more

Cybersecurity firm Cisco Talos says it has identified vulnerabilities in Microsoft applications for the macOS operating system, Computer Weekly reported.

The company warned that an adversary could exploit the flaws by injecting malicious libraries into the applications to gain their entitlements and user-granted permissions, potentially giving access to tools such as the microphone, camera, folders, and screen recording.

The Register noted that although Microsoft has designated the vulnerabilities as low risk, it has nevertheless updated Teams and OneNote to remove the entitlement that allowed library injection ...

Record-breaking phone collection unveiled — and it’s huge

It started with a Nokia 3210 and has grown to 3,615 handsets

Spain’s Wences Palau Fernandez has just claimed the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of mobile phones.

“He has created a dedicated website with photos and videos of his Nokia phones, and it’s an amazing look back over the history of the beloved brand,” Digital Trends reported.

“Of particular nostalgic interest are the Asha models, which include some of Nokia’s first touchscreen phones; the Communicator series, which was the folding smartphone of its day; and the many analog Nokia phones, including a very unusual Nokia 5130 Star Wars model released for Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace” ...

Apple unveils new web interface for its Podcasts tool

Listening via the web was already possible, but it wasn't as simple

Apple has launched a new web interface for its Podcasts tool, bringing a cleaner design, more features, and improved navigation.

It lets anyone without the mobile or desktop Podcasts app — including folks on Android — explore Apple’s vast podcast library to find something of interest, Engadget reported. Anyone can browse and listen to podcasts, though logging into an Apple account offers a richer experience with more features such as subscription management and the ability to sync across devices.

Podcasts on the web is available in more than 170 countries on major browsers such as Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox ...

Star Wars offshoot will not be getting
a second season on Disney+

It's over for The Acolyte, which was subjected to review bombing

Lucasfilm has decided not to continue with The Acolyte, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The Disney+ Star Wars offshoot, which aired its season o1 finale in July, picked up some decent reviews from critics, but review-bombing led to a dismal 18% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an equally awful 4.1 rating on IMDb.

“The show was review-bombed from some quarters who perceived it as ‘woke,’ with certain corners of the internet going after [creator Leslye] Headland, who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the series’ diverse group of actors,” The Hollywood Reporter commented ...

GAMING

Pokémon’s new mobile trading card game is coming soon

You'll be able to open Pokémon card packs on your phone

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will arrive on October 30 on Android and iOS, and you can preregister for it now, Digital Trends reported.

Announced earlier this year, Pocket is a collaboration with Creatures Inc. that gives you two booster packs daily. A swipe of your finger across the top of a pack plays a neat animation that makes you feel like you’re really opening it up

Many of the cards will come with a new immersive feature that takes the art's background and expands it into more 3D spaces. You'll be able to collect some beloved cards, too, as well as ones exclusive to the app ...
