Welcome to Friday Faves! Every Friday, I spotlight books, podcasts, email newsletters, documentaries or other content pieces that I enjoy. I also share suggestions that I get from you. Got a favorite for your peers? Send it to me. I may include it here for a future column. Happy Friday SmartBrief on Workforce readers, This week’s Friday Fave comes from Education Week and talks about a sobering topic: alcohol abuse among educators. Kentucky Teacher of the Year Jessica Dueñas bravely shares her 13-year struggle with alcohol and how it eventually led her to leave the profession. She went on to launch an organization, Bottomless to Sober, aimed at helping people who are in recovery from alcohol abuse. Why did I pick this for my Friday Fave? Because Dueñas’ story reminded me that Life is messy -- for everybody. Divorce. Domestic abuse. Addiction. Legal problems. Financial challenges. Illness. Death. These are the realities of life. So my question to you now is: How do we support folks as they walk through it? How do we help them not get swallowed by the challenge? Let me know your thoughts. Do you enjoy this brief? Share it with others. Want different stories? Something about it bug you? Tell me. In the words of Frasier Crane, “I’m listening.”
