Facebook has truly become a powerful marketing tool that caters to businesses of all shapes and sizes. As an artist, you can utilize the social media platform to systematically tell your story to a very broad audience. It's appealing to visual artists especially, because visual content tends to draw in more visitors.

This week I will discuss how to host a Facebook Live event to generate art sales.


Social media "live" events have become a great marketing tool for individuals and businesses to engage with their followers in a new and more meaningful way. They offer a fresh approach to interact with your audience that feels more personal than simply posting an image or video to your feed.


The live aspect also allows you to directly connect with a large number of followers at once and answer their specific questions which is a great way to build deeper connections online.


Before you host your first live event, you want to make sure that you are prepared so the event goes smoothly and the attendees stay engaged for the duration.


Follow these 7 quick and easy steps to prepare for your first (or next) Facebook Live event:


1. Pick 5 - 10 pieces of artwork that you want to sell during your event. These pieces can be recent works or works that you're most eager to sell.


2. Create a private collection on your FASO artist website and add these pieces to this collection. This will make your Facebook Live attendees feel as if they have exclusive access to certain pieces of work and can be a great motivation to buy.


3. Pick 3 - 5 of these pieces that you plan on presenting during your event and write more in-depth descriptions. It's important not to overwhelm your audience so avoid going into detail about every piece that you have added to the private collection. Choose a few top pieces and focus on those.


4. Prepare brief summaries for the remaining artwork that you'd like to showcase during your event. Make these descriptions short (20 seconds max each) to pique your audience's interest.


5. Add your Facebook Live event to your FASO artist website at least 48 hours before your event goes live. Use your website traffic to drive more people to your live events and interact with them there.


6. Invite subscribers on your email list 48 hours before your event goes live. Don't be afraid to send an email to your subscribers - remember, they want to hear from you!


7. Promote your event on Facebook 24 hours before your event goes live. This is important to try and increase the number of followers that will attend your event. You have to offer a short notification window so they're aware that the event is happening but not too much time that they will forget about it.

Once you've planned and setup your Facebook Live event, follow the below outline to maximize your time and keep your audience engaged throughout the entire event.


1. Start by introducing yourself and welcoming your audience to the event. (1 minute max)


2. Show and tell stories for the 3 -5 pieces of work that you picked out and wrote in-depth descriptions for. (2 - 3 minutes max for each piece)


3. Briefly show the remaining pieces that you've chosen to present. (2 minutes total max)


4. Make sure to leave time for a Q&A segment that will allow you interact with your audience. (10 - 15 minutes max)


5. Repeat your introduction and welcome a few times throughout the live if you notice that new followers are joining throughout the event.


Remember, just keep it simple and light and act is if you were interacting with people at an actual event.
