Groundbreaker Award Winners on Making Open Source Better for All
“If, a year ago, someone had told me I would be onstage at an Oracle conference, I would not have believed it,” Guido van Rossum, creator of the Python programming language, said as he received an inaugural Groundbreaker Award at the 2018 Oracle Code One conference, where there was a strong—and surprising, to some—emphasis on unforked open source.
Van Rossum was one of five open source Groundbreakers honored, along with Neha Narkhede, cofounder of Confluent; JRuby Project Lead Charles Nutter; Graeme Rocher, creator of Grails and Micronaut; and Doug Cutting, founder of Apache Lucene, Nutch, Hadoop, and Avro. You won’t want to miss the delightful discussion they had on how to make the open source community more inclusive, with inspiring tips for careers, work/life balance, and productivity.
