| | ✈️ American Airlines Considers Eradicating ‘Gate Lice’ | I learned a new term over the weekend: “gate lice.” Apparently it refers to people at an airport gate who attempt to board a flight before their group or zone number gets called. | It never occurred to me. But apparently people do this. Especially starting in 2010, when airlines began charging for checked suitcases. | “Board in Group 1, no matter your group,” wrote a frequent air traveler that NPR cited. “99% of the time they don’t say anything. Worst case they tell you to wait, then you’re first when they call your actual group.” | American Airlines is thinking about eradicating these gate lice – or at least their practice of jumping the line to board early. | At three test airports, American customers being naughty with boarding will hear an audible signal. Caught red-handed, a gate agent will then send those passengers back to the general population mulling around the gate waiting to be called. | Included in the New York Times report detailing the program is this paragraph: | “Travel experts believe that the noncompliant passengers are increasingly rampant because airline passengers who wish to secure valuable overhead bin space mark their territory as soon as possible.” | | 📊 Stat of the Day | | | 💰️ Deal Alert: Today’s Top Deals | | | | | | 🎙️ Podcast | | Full Show: Why Clark Hates Debit Cards and Amazon Opening New Pharmacies |
