Editor’s Note | | Simple Is Hard In the keynote at Oracle Code in Los Angeles—the first in a 14-city tour of events for developers—Venkat Subramaniam described the art of simplicityand why complexity so often creeps in. Subramaniam, president of Agile Developer and an instructional professor at the University of Houston, applied the lessons to software development, but they really fit every aspect of technology (and business). Complex applications may make us feel smart, because we may worry that presenting a simple option makes our problem look not so hard after all, he warned. We gravitate toward familiar, comfortable solutions, even when a less familiar option might be simpler. But the payoff from simple solutions is huge, as they’re less likely to cause problems over time. — Chris Murphy, Oracle director of cloud content |
