Summer has finally arrived! For a lot of my clients, summer provides a bit of a break - many courts slow down or close for at least part of the summer and the overall vibe is usually a bit more relaxed.
Summer is a perfect time to spend some more time with family and friends, but it's also a great time to think about improvements you can make in your practice. You may have summer interns or additional help to get pesky chores done in the office, or you may want to use the slower pace of work in the summer to implement something new in your practice. I hope this month's newsletter gives you a couple of ideas, whether it's improving communication with your employees, automating your practice, updating your LinkedIn Profile, or doing something different with your marketing.
âââââââDon't forget to take some time for you and enjoy the summer!

| | Improving Communication to Increase Employee Engagement | This month's feature article is my Simple Steps column in Law Practice Today's May/June 2018 issue, the Management issue.
Engaged employees are more likely to take initiative, to be loyal to and go the extra mile for their law firms. In her recent book, Positive Professionals: Creating High Performing Profitable Firms Through the Science of Engagement, author Anne Brafford says that the quality of communication from law firm leaders is a powerful influencer on the work experience of those they lead. But law firm associates and junior partners frequently cite communication issues including lack of appreciation, poor feedback and lack of collegiality as negative factors in the law firm workplace, leading to disconnection. One way to improve employee engagement is by improving law firm communications. | Read More |

Add Value to Your Practice with LinkedIn and Automation | Earlier this month, I had an opportunity to be a guest on Rocket Matter's 10 Minute Podcast with Rocket Matter founder, Larry Port. We chatted about LinkedIn, automation, the challenges facing today's lawyers, flinging cows and more (we may have gone slightly over the 10 minutes). You can check out our episode, Episode 43 here.

What's Next in Legal Marketing? | Canadian legal practice management pro Sandra Bekhor wrote an article on her Toronto Marketing Blog quoting a whole host of legal marketing folks opining on what's coming up in legal marketing. She asked me to chime in and I said that I thought more lawyers would be using video to market their practices.
Other experts talked about tracking metrics, blogging, creating a story with your marketing message, or creating a more strategic presence on social media. | Read the full post here |

Webinar: Put Your Practice on Auto-Pilot with Automation, Templates and Checklists
Earlier this month, I conducted this webinar with the good folks at RocketMatter. The program focused on how you can automate more of your practice to improve your client service and get more consistent with your marketing. I talked about how to develop systems the right way, use forms, templates and checklists, and automate them using available tools. After all, when you know important tasks are being done consistently and effectively, you can focus on serving your clients. If you missed the webinar, you can access the recording here.

If you want to dial up your marketing, the first step is to get exceptionally clear about your target audience (both clients and referral sources). One way to do that is by completing my Ideal Client Profile workbook.
This workbook takes you step by step through the process of identifying and targeting your ideal clients. It's the same process I use with my consulting clients. | Learn More |
