Investigators believe attorney Bryan Schmitt deliberately ran over real estate investor Hamid Jahangard on July 30 because he thought the man had thrown a golf ball at his vehicle, USA Today reports. Schmitt, 48, told police he confronted Jahangard after seeing him throw a rock or ball at his vehicle from a driveway in Sandy Springs, 16 miles north of Atlanta. He claimed that when he tried to pull into the driveway, Jahangard hurled a trash can at the car and he accidentally hit the man when swerving to avoid it. The 60-year-old father of two died in a hospital two days later. Police let Schmitt drive home after the incident, but he was arrested two weeks later when surveillance video failed to back up his story. Police say the driveway was 23 feet wide, meaning Schmitt would have had plenty of space to swerve around Jahangard. A police report states video shows that "Schmitt's vehicle plows into the driveway and is not the type of driving for someone ... (to) 'swerve to miss a garbage can.'" Investigator JT Williams wrote: "The speed used to vault the garbage can, lift the front end of his car up and to slam the victim down so hard it causes a massive skull fracture ... is not an accident." Manoucher Jahangard told police he was on the phone with his brother and heard him say, "I did not throw anything, get out my face, get out my face," before the line went dead, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The phone was found lodged under Schmitt's windshield wiper. Schmitt, who has been in jail since his Aug. 12 arrest, was indicted Friday on charges including murder and aggravated assault. The pastor of our church began his sermon with this story: "I was on a plane last week, from Chicago to California, when we ran into some very severe turbulence. As it got worse, the passengers became more and more alarmed, and even the flight attendants began to look concerned. Finally, one of them noticed that I had 'Rev.' in front of my name on the passenger list, came over to me, and said, 'Sir, this is really frightening. Do you suppose you could, I don't know...do something religious?'" "So I took up a collection." A couple of weeks later I came home from work to find my fiancee quite upset. She gave me the silent treatment until I figured out why she was so angry. She had noticed the canceled check, and on the memo line I had written "Escort Service." ___________________________________________________ Daily tip from Thriftyfun.com Thriftyfun.com Loaning a Car Call your insurance company prior to loaning out your car to make sure that your coverage extends to them. It's important that they are covered because if they get an in an accident in your car, you could be held liable for damages even if you are not the driver. thriftyfun.Com ____________________________________________________ | China's social credit system | ___________________________________________________ Joe had asked Bob to help him out with the deck after work, so Bob went straight over to Joe's place. When they got to the door, Joe went straight to his wife, gave her a hug and told her how beautiful she was and how much he had missed her at work. When it was time for supper, he complimented his wife on her cooking, kissed her and told her how much he loved her. Once they were working on the deck, Bob told Joe that he was surprised that he fussed so much over his wife. Joe said that he'd started this about 6 months ago, it had revived their marriage and things couldn't be better. Bob thought he'd give it a go. When he got home, he gave his wife a massive hug, kissed her and told her that he loved her. His wife burst into tears. Bob was confused and asked why she was crying. She said, "This is the worst day of my life. First, little Billy fell off his bike and twisted his ankle. Then, the washing machine broke and flooded the basement. And now, you come home drunk!" ___________________________________________________ My husband's uncle thought he had conquered his problem of trying to remember his wife's birthday and, also, their anniversary. He opened an account with a florist, provided that florist with the dates and instructions to send flowers to his wife on these dates along with an appropriate note signed, "Your loving husband." His wife was thrilled by this new display of attention and all went well until one day, some bouquets later, when he came home, kissed his wife and said offhandedly, "Nice flowers, honey. Where'd you get them?" ___________________________________________________ I graduated from a school that I didn't like much. Once I was outta there, I had no particular desire to ever contribute to their latest fund drive or future athletic events. Sure enough, Alumni Affairs staff called my folks, got my current number and tracked me down. 'So, what have you been doing with yourself?' the perky alumnus asked. I responded, "Oh, not a lot. Just what I learned at college: Stealing cars, selling dope, and running moonshine." They've never called back. __________________________________________________ Ophelia Dingbatter's NewsNo sermon and not suitable for church, just jokes and fun for grownups.
