I’m asking if you can please contribute € 10 to help reach Mozilla ’s Giving Tuesday goal of $250,000 USD

This is Nabiha Syed. I’m the new executive director of the Mozilla Foundation.

Today is Giving Tuesday – a global day of generosity when millions of people donate to support important causes. Before I ask you to make a contribution to Mozilla, I’d like to share why your donation is so important for creating the future of the internet that we want – especially right now.

Since joining Mozilla, I’ve been thinking a lot about how the Mozilla community is uniquely positioned to shape technology that puts people first. We don't have to accept the status quo in which big tech companies have way too much control over our online experiences. We can advance our own vision, on our own terms.

We can imagine a future that centers human agency and creativity, and then we can get to work and build that future together. In this wildly unpredictable and transformative moment, the Mozilla community can be on the frontlines of the next wave of technology – but only if we act now.

Now here’s the part where I get to that ask that I mentioned before. We have set an ambitious Giving Tuesday goal of raising $250,000 USD before midnight tonight. We have a good chance at reaching this goal – but only if we receive a very large number of contributions today. That is why I am asking you directly:

Can you contribute €10 to Mozilla to transform the future of the internet? Your donation will help reach our Giving Tuesday goal and build our global movement to reclaim the internet.

The through-line of my career has been grappling with how technology can uplift or stifle human agency. I choose the former, and I bet you do too. We don’t need permission to make something on the internet – and that freedom holds enormous potential.

Now, with rapid advancements in AI, we are once again facing a moment that holds enormous potential. Will new technologies allow people to have full agency over their data and their online experiences? Or will the future of AI be dominated by a few large tech companies?

The answer to those questions will depend on what we do together in the months and years ahead.

So when you make a donation to Mozilla, think of that donation as an investment in the future that we get to build together. It’s not up to big tech companies to determine what that future will look like – it’s up to all of us.

The Mozilla community has a huge opportunity – and also a responsibility – to shape this current era of AI and chart the future of the internet. Together we can bring more transparency, more human agency, and more joy to our online experiences. And I’m so honored to be a part of this journey with you.
