Good morning, happy Saturday, and welcome to the November 16 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. Hopefully this day gives you as big a lift as the Saints are expecting from Erik McCoy. The Good ChangeThink back to the last time Erik McCoy was in the Saints lineup. They were one of the more pleasant surprises in the NFL, a 2-0 team that blitzed the Panthers and the Cowboys and lit up the scoreboards. Basically everything that has happened since then has been the exact opposite. Everything changed while McCoy was out: The team lost seven straight, the head coach got fired, the scoring output nosedived. Well, McCoy is about to be back this week. My colleague Matt Paras did a great job analyzing how important one player, even someone as relatively anonymous as a center, can be to a team's fortunes. This one is worth your time. Welcome backJameis Winston made a lot of fans during his four years in New Orleans, and as our columnist Rod Walker writes, he also made a great connection to the city he briefly called home. Sunday, Winston, as the Browns starting quarterback, will return to the city he never really wanted to leave. Make it 2? After losing seven straight games — a streak that resulted in head coach Dennis Allen being dismissed — New Orleans is looking to start another kind of streak this week with its second straight win. How will they get there? Walker walks you through some of the biggest questions the Saints will need to answer this weekend. Still looking for more content? We've got plenty more over at NOLA.com, and if you'd rather listen to your news and breakdowns, we've got a fresh edition of the Saints Insider podcast for y'all as well. Cheers, and have a great weekend. Luke Johnson |
