Plus, some LOLs for independence day
Yesterday, R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of racketeering and charges related to sex trafficking. Several of the victim witnesses addressed the singer and the court before the sentencing, sharing the traumas they endured and their hopes for justice. “You are an abuser. You are shameless. You are disgusting. You are self-serving,” one woman said. “I hope you go to jail for the rest of your life... Now it’s your turn to have your freedom taken from you and it still won’t be an ounce of the freedom you took away from your victims.” If you are the victim of sexual abuse or assault yourself, these stories — even stories of so-called “justice” — can be incredibly triggering. We asked experts for their advice on how to navigate those feelings in light of the news. Xo, Ashley Rockman |
