| Fire damages restaurant, brewpub in Geneva A restaurant and brewpub in west suburban Geneva is closed until further notice after being damaged by a fire this week. In a newsletter item, Stockholm's Restaurant & Brewery, located at 306 W. State St. in Geneva, said staffers at nearby Niche Restaurant notified Stockholm's staff about smoke billowing from an exhaust hood Wednesday evening. The Geneva Fire Department rushed to the scene, arriving at 9:59 p.m. Wednesday to Stockholm's Restaurant & Brewery. The fire department said it raised a general alarm due to the number of people calling to report smoke billowing from the second floor and roof of the building. The fire departments from St. Charles, Batavia, and Elburn also responded. Upon arriving, firefighters found smoke coming from the front door and roof of Stockholm's. This is as the industry battles a nationwide shortage. O'Fallon Fire Chief Brad White said he needed to get creative to lure more firefighters to the field. When a fire emergency strikes, they're there to save lives, yet White said he noticed a problem. "There are departments that are closing around the nation that have been there a hundred years or more … People age out who are currently with them, and they can't get young people in. It's a problem here in St. Clair County for sure," he said. It's why he's getting creative by investing in social media and innovative recruitment with a focus on matching new hires with their interests. | VIDEO: Massive fire demolishes church in Maryland, firefighter injured A firefighter was injured in a massive fire that destroyed a church, causing the roof to collapse, Thursday afternoon in Carroll County. Dozens of firefighters contained the two-alarm blaze at Clearfield Bible Church, in the 1300 block of Old Westminster Pike in Westminster, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Just piles of charred brick, wood and ashes remain. "Just charred wood, just smoldering away, it's like nothing left," said neighbor Tracey Brooks. "The entire back of the church is completely gone, honestly the only thing left standing is the front wall." Firefighters arrived to find the brick church fully involved with heavy fire and smoke. The fire was elevated to a second alarm because of extreme afternoon temperatures and the need to add the tanker task force to bring water to the scene," fire officials said. Life EMS, a West Michigan-owner provider, is anticipated to be the first emergency service organization in the nation to use Stryker's newest medical device, LIFEPAK 35, according to officials. The device is expected to use technology that can reduce how many pauses there are during chest compressions. It also features enhanced options, which include: Pediatric AED mode; Advanced connected capabilities that can send data quicker with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cell data; and a Live view 12/15-lead with STJ Insight that provides a graphical representation of the ECG to help diagnose heart attacks. "This again, helps us when people talk about somebody having a heart attack," Mark Meijer, president of Life EMS Ambulance, said. WWMT-TV CBS 3 KALAMAZOO Found on Facebook, 77-year-old fire truck returns home to New York department VIDEO: You can find a lot on Facebook Marketplace, even a long-lost fire truck. A 1947 Dodge pumper truck belonged to the Chaumont Volunteer Fire Department decades ago but in the 90s, it disappeared after the shop where it was being worked on closed. Fast forward 30 years and a lucky scroll through the social media platform's shop turned up the 77-year-old missing truck. Through donations, the department raised $6,000 and was able to bring the pumper home. "It's part of our history, and so to be able to go and get a part of history back, it's pretty awesome," said Chaumont Fire Chief Will Lipczynski. "The nice thing about these trucks is that it was built when vehicles were made to last. It does have some surface rust, but no major rust on it."
