Manhattan Fire Mourns Former Volunteer Firefighter & New Lenox Man PHOTO: The Manhattan Fire Protection District is mourning the loss of a beloved former volunteer member. Brian Daniel Chellios, 45, died suddenly Friday, Feb. 2, according to his obituary. Chellios previously lived in Manhattan and most recently in New Lenox. Chellios began his firefighter/paramedic career in 1997 as a volunteer with the Manhattan department. He continued his family's legacy, following in the footsteps of his grandfathers, dad, brother, cousins and uncles. Chellios went on to work his way up the ranks to Chief of University Park Fire Department. Chellios also held all ranks in between, according to his obituary. "Brian was the embodiment of Pride, Duty, and Tradition," his colleagues at the University Park Fire Department said in his obituary. NEW LENOX PATCH Chicago's iconic Palace Grill damaged by fire VIDEO/PHOTOS: Palace Grill, a beloved diner on Chicago's Near West Side, was damaged in a fire Thursday night. The fire started around 10 p.m. hours after the kitchen had closed at 1408 W. Madison St. Firefighters had to open up the roof and the ceiling to get water on the fire. The restaurant suffered "extensive" interior damage, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to CFD. Palace Grill displayed autographed Blackhawks jerseys and a collection of celebrity memorabilia dating back 80-plus years. "When I first got the call, I just assumed it was going to be something small and then my phone just kept blowing up and blowing up," Palace Grill owner George Lemparis said. "I immediately got in the car and drove here. When I got here, I saw the damage and I was stunned." WFLD-TV FOX 32 CHICAGO Watseka Fire Department expands hours, staff VIDEO: Watseka's part-time fire department has expanded their hours and will soon expand their staff. The department had previously been working on call. Now, thanks to community support, they will be staffing part-time fire-EMS responders five days a week. This will help Watseka and surrounding areas by delivering service in a quicker and more effective way. Starting last week, there are now part-time members in the firehouse, five days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The department stressed the need to help Iroquois County EMS services as they deal with staffing shortages. "This hopefully provides a little bit of relief on that system itself," said Watseka Fire Chief Ken Baier. Relief that people in Iroquois County need and are now getting.
