"Family comes first," is the message Stillman Valley Fire Protection District wants the community to know as it rallies around two of its own. Firefighter Dariusz Warzocha faces an aggressive form of leukemia while his comrade Whitney Trosper Anderson battles Hodgkin's lymphoma. These battles take them away from serving the community, but their fire family doesn't let them fight alone. Fire Chief Chad Hoefle explains that the moment you join a department you become part of the family. That's why, he says, when his young comrades came to him with their diagnosis it hit him on another level. Dariusz and Whitney say they are not defined by their battle with cancer, but rather their dedication to helping the community. "When you are part of a fire department, sometimes being away is really tough," Hoefel says.  

VIDEO: Chicago firefighters battled a blaze on the city's South Side on Sunday morning. The fire happened in the Back of the Yards neighborhood near 47th and Ashland Avenue. Video showed as firefighters battled the blaze at what appeared to be clothing stores on Ashland Avenue. The Chicago Fire Department said there were no injuries, and nobody was sent to the hospital. As of 6:11 a.m. crews were still working to put out some hot spots, but most of the fire had been extinguished. It is unknown what caused the fire.  

PHOTOS: A Sandoval home was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning. Upon arrival, Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson said the living portion of the home at 503 East Mississippi was fully involved and the fire was venting through the roof. They were able to stop the fire from spreading into a breezeway that connected the home to a three-car attached garage. The home is owned by Carl and Sherry Foster. No one was at home at the time the fire was reported. The house will be a total loss. One firefighter did become overheated but was able to return to fighting the fire. Since the residence was down a long drive off US 51, water had to be shuttled from a hydrant to the scene. Firefighters were on the scene for about six hours, ensuring no hot spots remained in addition to helping the State Fire Marshal attempt to determine the cause of the fire.  

We have learned more details regarding a massive fire that broke out on Saturday in Jackson. As of Monday morning, the huge fire that occurred at the Mississippi Tire Recycling building located at East McDowell Road and Parcel Drive still burns. Jackson Fire Assistant Chief Patrick Armon said firefighters are still actively trying to put out the blaze. He says that 10 alarms went off when the fire began, meaning around 10 units responded to the scene to get the blaze under control. Since Saturday, he says at least one or two firetrucks have been at the scene every minute. Armon also said that crews have been using hydrants since Saturday, but due to a water main break, firefighters were reduced to using the water on their firetrucks Sunday evening.  

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office arrested a man after he fired shots at fire and EMS officials and then fled from the scene in a fire vehicle. Officials state around 11:45 a.m. Rowan County emergency services and Atwell Fire Department responded to Shinn Farm Road and Hwy. 152 in regards to an unconscious male sitting in a vehicle. When they arrived on scene it did not appear the male needed medical attention and could possibly be impaired. They contacted North Carolina State Highway Patrol and while waiting for highway patrol to arrive on scene, the male produced a handgun and began shooting at fire and EMS. Officials state that one Rowan County paramedic sustained an arm injury from a fall while seeking cover. The sheriff's office stated that the male, identified as Miguel Angel Perez Ramirez, got into a fire pickup truck and drove erratically.  

A trio of YouTubers made their firefighting debuts in Denver with South Metro Fire Rescue. The Try Guys first appeared in Buzzfeed videos trying various odd-ball activities — anything from baking bread to recreating images of famous male icons. But they have since left the media giant and started their own company: 2nd Try. The trio appeared in a YouTube video published Saturday that features the Parker facility and members of the South Metro Fire Rescue crew. The group, originally made up of four members, is making one last push with three of its original members: Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfeld and Eugene Lee Yang. As part of their last hurrah, Kornfeld, Yang and Habersberger joined South Metro Fire Rescue for one day to try out the agency's high-intensity fire academy, which ordinarily takes 20 weeks to complete.
