WBBM-TV CBS 2 CHICAGO Ohio city sets new social media policy for police and firefighters A "rift." That is how Carter Stewart and Ohio State University described the relationship between Columbus city leaders and the police department. The city has a new social media policy for police officers and firefighters. It says, while social media can be fun, employees could be disciplined, even fired, for saying anything negative about the city and its operations. Many businesses have implemented social media policies for sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Columbus Public Safety put out a new social media policy after an investigation was launched into a Columbus police deputy chief's use of Twitter. "It is clear to me while the City of Columbus can regulate social media of employees, they have gone way too far with this policy. In many instances, it violates the first amendment," said attorney Mark Weaver.
