A fire damages a well-known Waterloo, Illinois bakery overnight. Damage can be seen from a fire at Ahne's Bakery in downtown Waterloo on West Mill Street. It appears that at least some of the damage is to the back part of the popular business. Here's a look at pictures of the scene from the Republic Times – a local newspaper in Monroe County. The newspaper reported that crews from the Waterloo Fire Department rushed there around 7:45 p.m. Flames could be seen shooting from the rear area of this longtime local business. Other first responders also raced there, including Waterloo Police, Monroe County EMS, and the Columbia Fire Department. The Republic Times shared that fire officials said they had the situation under control around 8:15 p.m., about a half hour after they arrived. KTVI-TV FOX 2 ST. LOUIS Four people are dead after what police say was a domestic incident in which gunfire could be heard and the house where the suspect fled caught fire. The incident occurred in the Chicago suburb of Oak Forest on Friday morning. Police say when they responded to the call, they found three people with gunshot wounds outside the house. The victims were rushed to area hospitals, where they were pronounced dead. A person believed to be the suspect went into the house, which caught fire. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, police found the body of the suspect. No information has been released about any of those who died or how the person in the house died. WEEK-TV NBC/ABS/CW+ 25 PEORIA Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger confirmed a fire engine was briefly stolen while crews responded to a crash early Saturday morning. Sollberger said while police and fire crews were handling the crash on Moss Avenue, a person approached the fire engine and stole it. That person was taken into police custody, and the fire engine was recovered with no damage and nothing missing. Sollberger confirmed more information on the incident would be released later Saturday. WMBD-TV CBS 31 PEORIA One of eight people who was hospitalized after an apartment building exploded in the Austin neighborhood has died. According to the Chicago Fire Department's Office of Fire Investigation, the source of the explosion was the ignition of natural gas. The investigation has not determined the cause of that ignition, fire officials say. The CFD on Friday said the "most seriously injured person" from the West Side explosion died from his injuries. The man, identified as Shabron Robinson, 29, had been taken to Loyola Medical Center with extensive burns. First responders were on the scene at a four-story, 36-unit apartment building just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the 5600 block of West West End Avenue after a portion of the top floor collapsed. At least 10 ambulances were at the location. KTVI-TV FOX 2 ST. LOUIS Firefighters in Macomb responded to a dryer fire at a single-family home Saturday morning at 1665 E Wheeler Street around 9:35 a.m. Firefighters arrived at 9:41 a.m. to find smoke emitting from the home. They made their way to the laundry room where they encountered flames. Firefighters reported that they extinguished the fire by 9:56 a.m. According to firefighters, the occupants were at home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported. Firefighters said there was significant damage to the laundry room and hallway. Firefighters reported that the occupants did not have insurance. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation by the Macomb Fire Department. WGEM-TV NBC 10 QUINCY |

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A new state-of-the-art fire station is under construction in Riviera Beach, and once complete, city leaders believe it will be a model for the rest of the country. City manager Jonathan Evans and city councilman Douglas Lawson received a tour of the $20 million facility, with Riviera Beach Fire Chief John Curd leading the way through the 30,000 square-foot building at the corner of North Congress Avenue and Blue Heron Boulevard. "This is the largest investment the city of Riviera Beach has made on the west side of the community, probably in a generation," said Evans "This facility is the cornerstone to Reimagine Riviera Beach. You can't reimagine Riviera Beach if you don't address critical infrastructure. Public safety is critical infrastructure and a critical component of our community." Station No. 88 is a long time coming. WPEC-TV CBS 12 WEST PALM BEACH PHOTOS: Over the past six years, when the volunteer firefighters of Essex Fire Department in Vermont responded to a call, they knew a young girl in their community was thinking of them and waiting for their safe return. They can just look at their newest fire engine if they ever need reminding of her presence and support. The truck is named "Addi's Engine," but it was Addi's long before it was officially put into service in late 2020. Addi Carroll was born with a mysterious, previously unknown, fatal disease. In 2016, she requested a backyard swimming pool from the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and as a special surprise, the Essex Fire Department showed up to fill the pool from their tanker. That day changed her life. "From the moment she met the members of the Essex Fire Department, she fell in love with the fire service," Addi's mom, Tammy Carroll, said. PIERCE MANUFACTURING Hackers allegedly stole over $8,000 in paychecks following an email hack from an Upstate fire department. According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Reidville Fire Department located at 3380 Hwy 417 on a report of fraud/payroll theft. Once deputies arrived on the scene, they spoke with Fire Chief Patrick Evatt. Evatt told deputies that six members of the fire department failed to receive their direct deposit on Wednesday. Deputies said they discovered that someone hacked and/or gained remote access to the Assistant Chief's employee email and gained access to employee direct deposit information and payroll accounts. The unknown subject(s) then edited the direct deposit information of the six employees resulting in their payroll earnings being deposited into reloadable pre-paid debit cards. WBTW-TV CBS 13 FLORENCE VIDEO: The 150th anniversary of the Salisbury Fire Department is a little over a month away. And first responders are gearing up for the fun. Staff says there will be live rescue demonstrations, tours of the firehouse, a parade, and a visit from a special guest. On top of having a good time, you'll be able to see the growth of how far the department has come. "Just excited about getting to celebrate 150 years, and see how much we've grown over the years from our little small, one engine bay firehouse to now the big firehouse that we have here, so it's going to be a great day," says Deputy Chief Darrin Scott of the Salisbury Fire Department. This event takes place on October 22nd at 10 AM at the Salisbury Fire Department rain or shine. WMDT-TV ABC/CW+ 47 SALISBURY For people struggling with addiction in Maine, the risk of a deadly overdose has never been higher. Data from Maine EMS shows overdose calls for all substances increased 28% from 2020 to 2021 and 62% from 2010 to 2021. According to the agency, the number of opioid overdoses also increased dramatically, rising 38% from 2020 to 2021. A new strategy would allow EMS clinicians to initiate Suboxone treatment for patients after experiencing an overdose. The medication treats withdrawal symptoms and can help people living with opioid addiction enter into recovery. If the rollout meets expectations, Maine would be the first state in the nation to allow emergency responders to initiate recovery care using the medication. WMTW-TV ABC 8 POLAND SPRING |
