WTXF-TV FOX 29 PHILADELPHIA More than 200 planes could have the same problem that caused an Alaska commuter service fire, investigators say An investigation into the Yute Commuter Service plane that caught fire on Nov. 20, 2021 has found that the fire was started by wiring in the aircraft that was installed incorrectly. The wiring was installed as part of a federally funded experimental safety program, and there could be over 200 other planes in the region that have the same problem. The plane that caught fire was a Cessna 207. A week after the incident, two investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and one from the airplane's manufacturer arrived in Bethel to find out what started the fire. They started collecting the charred wreckage of the plane. "We were able to harvest some parts that we suspect were the ignition source of the fire," said NTSB Alaska chief Clint Johnson. KTOO-FM 104.3 JUNEAU First Responders In California Blast Long Emergency Room Wait Times At Capitol Hearing VIDEO: First responders at the California State Capitol on Wednesday blasted hours-long wait times to transfer patients to emergency rooms. Emergency health workers voiced their growing frustration during a hearing, saying the wait times are bad for patients and keep them from other calls. Some agencies reported waiting up to eight hours to transfer patients to emergency rooms. Many reported waiting several hours because no one is available to receive new patients — a problem made worse as the COVID-19 Omicron variant stretches hospitals thin. "It's only a matter of time before a community member will die simply because they could not get to the hospital," Chino Valley Fire District Chief David Williams said during the hearing. Emergency health workers say the problem has been decades in the making, exacerbated now by staffing shortages and high demand due to the pandemic. KOVR-TV CBS 13 SACRAMENTO Check Out This Maine Fire Department's Cool 'Sno-Bulance' Rescue Boggan PHOTOS: Sometimes Fire Departments have some really cool tools at their disposal. This one, from the Town of Hermon Fire Department's Facebook page, caught my eye. So I reached out to Hermon Fire Chief Cody Sullivan to get the skinny on this member of Hermon's rescue fleet, the rescue-boggan, also known as the "snowbulance". "So that is a self-contained transport toboggan, so there's room for a patient on a backboard with spine mobilization, and also room for an EMT or a paramedic to attend to the potential victim's needs during transport off a trail." "It's not self-propelled, it's a tow-behind, so it's made to tow behind a snowmobile." Sullivan says the Hermon Firefighters, along with members of other local fire departments, train on these pieces of equipment, and keep them ready to be available in an instant, should the need arise in a snowy or icy situation.
