| Romeoville Fire Academy Awarded Grant to Train Underserved Firefighters/EMTs The Romeoville Fire Academy is proud to announce its selection as a partner in Endeavor Health's 2024 Community Investment Fund (CIF). This year, the Fire Academy has been awarded $100,000 to support workforce development aimed at recruiting, training and launching firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) careers with a focus on young adults from diverse communities. "Our fire academy does such a tremendous job training not only Romeoville's firefighters and EMTs, but also those from surrounding communities, states, and even other countries," said Romeoville Mayor John Noak. "This grant will allow the academy to apply that training excellence to new recruits who have dreamed of being firefighters, but could not afford the training." ROMEOVILLE PATCH No injuries reported after fire destroys Pillars house in Oswego VIDEO: The family who lived in one of the oldest homes in Oswego is now displaced after a fire broke out at the Pillars house Wednesday morning. According to the Oswego Fire Protection Battalion Chief Travis Martinez, crews responded to the Pillars house on the 400 block of Main Street after a passerby noticed flames coming from the home around 10:30 a.m. Oswego fire crews had a tough time putting the fire out due to "one of the smallest water mains" causing issues during the response, according to Chief Martinez. The village's public works director told WGN News as firefighters pulled water from the main to fight the fire, the drop in water pressure contributed to a water main break a few blocks away. 100 homes are now under a boil order, likely to be lifted Friday. | VIDEO: New Jersey warehouse inferno escalates to 8 alarms, forces evacuations An inferno that torched a New Jersey warehouse, spewing smoke seen for miles, is under control authorities say, though firefighters expect to be dousing hotspots throughout the day Thursday. The fire on Nassau Street and Georges Road in North Brunswick erupted at an address linked to an old mattress factory around the time of Wednesday's evening rush. It escalated to eight alarms within hours. The fire was fueled in part by propane tanks and other combustible materials, officials said. Firefighters from as far as an hour from the scene were called to assist, and homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported. Road closures were in effect through the overnight hours. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. "It is a great benefit, number one to give back to the community, and for recruitment," Arnold told News Channel 11. The program's first two students, seniors Dustin Gragg from Sullivan East and Alexander Thompson from Dobyns-Bennett, got started this semester. The students spend 20 to 25 hours of their week at Kingsport's fire stations as part of a paid internship.
