VIDEO: Some Champaign firefighters are being relocated to from the station near John Street and Kenwood Road after asbestos was found during an August 17th inspection. Interim Fire Chief, Gary Gula, told News Channel 20/FOX Illinois a plumber drilled a hole in a wall while working on a water heater and noticed insulation in the dust. That's when the city got the dust sampled and found it contained 2% of asbestos. Once, it was identified firefighters moved to Champaign Fire Department's (CFD) Mattis Avenue and Windsor Road stations. Gula added that asbestos was used in insulation back when the station was built in the 1960s. In the meantime, Gula also said (CFD) has a tracking system to continue providing service to residents near the John Street location.

VIDEO": Flames erupted inside a vacant house in Chicago Lawn Monday afternoon, quickly spreading to two neighboring residences. The fire caused significant damage to those homes, leaving at least two families displaced. SkyFOX was over the scene near 69th and Rockwell at about 5:30 p.m. A massive emergency response remained on scene for several hours. "Flames, I mean high flames," said neighbor Hervenia Mitchell as she described what unfolded. "There were flames to the sky," added Joe Kulys, another neighbor. In what felt like an instant, neighbors said the fire spread ferociously. "I walked out there and says, ‘holy mackerel, God forbid,'" said Kulys. Community members said the fire started at a boarded-up house, and told FOX 32 Chicago that they believe squatters have been living there.

PHOTOS: Fire crews are battling a large blaze in Newport that broke out late Monday. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, the fire at Scott Recycling was still active and the Cocke County Sheriff's Office said the building is a total loss. The Cocke County Emergency Management Agency called the incident response "a sight to see" in a Tuesday morning update and commended the leadership among the agencies that responded to the scene. "Hundreds of men and women working together in a spirit of trust and cooperation; it was a sight to see," a post from Cocke County EMA stated. "Leadership comes in all shapes, sizes, and ages." So far, there have been no reports of injuries.

Dearborn and Ann Arbor have agreed to rent each other's ambulances and other emergency vehicles on an as-needed or emergency basis. Both cities agreed to the deal in August. "This would occur if Rescue 1-1 is out of service for an extended period of time or if we wanted to add a second transport unit during peak demand times such as night, home football games," The Ann Arbor Fire Department posted on Facebook. "We are deeply appreciative and grateful to Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and Fire Chief Joseph Murray for their willingness to explore and partner on this." Murray agreed that the contract is good for both cities. "I can see potential during special events," he said. "The request originated from Ann Arbor."

Acting Governor Nicholas Scutari on Monday signed A-5275/S-3671, providing municipal governing bodies more flexibility in appointing chaplains to their fire departments. Under current law, the governing body of any municipality, by ordinance, may provide for the appointment of one or more ordained members of the clergy as chaplains to the paid or part-paid fire department and force of the municipality, with the rank of battalion chief and their salaries fixed by the governing body. The bill provides that, for any municipal fire department and force chaplain initially appointed after enactment, the municipality may specify in the ordinance appointing the chaplain whether the chaplain will have a rank and salary.
