| 4-year-old, 3 Pekin Police officers taken to hospital after lake rescue A Pekin Police Department spokesperson says the three officers who rescued the child have been released from the hospital, while a family member says the boy is stable. ..A 4-year-old child and three Pekin Police officers were taken to a local hospital after the child was rescued after falling into a lake. Around 3:19 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to Rosewood Lane on the report of a child walking across the ice on Meyers Lake. When officers arrived, the child was underwater. The three officers entered the water and rescued the child from the water with help from the Pekin Fire Department. The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office is conducting a follow-up investigation. WHOI-TV ABC 19 PEORIA Midwestern University offers training opportunity to local fire departments Midwestern University partnered with the Downers Grove Fire Department to offer a variety of training opportunities to local fire crews and police units in an unoccupied building on the Downers Grove campus scheduled for demolition. The Downers Grove and Lombard fire crews held training exercises in the three-story, 30,000 square-foot Haspel Hambrick Hall to practice large area searches, rescue operations, lost or separated firefighter protocols, roof ventilation on a commercial building, and other drills. The Downers Grove Police Department was also able to conduct an active shooter drill in the 61-year-old academic office building. A smoke simulator and specialized equipment were used throughout the training. THE DAILY HERALD - METERED SITE Fire causes $30,000 in damage to southside Peoria home Four people and numerous animals are safe, but displaced after a fire broke out in a southside home. Just before 5:45 p.m., officers responded to the 2500 block of W. Malone Avenue, at the intersection with Griswold Street. The fire was under control in a matter of minutes, but an estimated $30,000 worth of damage was caused. Four residents escaped prior to the department's arrival, and firefighters were able to save the numerous cats and dogs inside. The cause of the fire is under investigation. | Video shows flames shooting from three homes under construction in Kansas VIDEO: Officials with the Overland Park Fire Department are investigating what caused a massive blaze that destroyed three homes under construction in Johnson County, Kansas, early Monday. Firefighters were sent to a house fire call in the 11100 block of West 172nd Terrace around 4:20 a.m. on Monday. When crews arrived, firefighters saw large flames shooting from a two-story home under construction in that area. By that time, those flames had already spread to two other nearby homes — one on either side of the original home — also under construction. The scene was so large, additional Overland Park units as well as Olathe, Kansas, firefighters were called to help. Officials said the homes involved were still in the framing phase of construction, meaning there were no fire protection measures like smoke detectors or sprinklers in place. The "Loyal Order of the Fire Truck" keeping the tradition alive. The leading float of their parade -- not something you see every day. The 1950 Bon Secour fire truck is the inspiration behind Daphne's first Mardi Gras parading group. "This guy and I we bought the truck -- to pull in another parade and they didn't have us because they didn't like our truck - the looks of it. It looked like it looks right now. So we decided to start our own parade," explained the founding members. That was back in 1996. They admit they were "winging it" until it started to catch on and gain momentum. "And some years after that -- some of the city council members and the mayor came down and saw what was going on and road in it... And thought this is great. This is like a people's parade and they adopted it," said founding member. A big part of this parading group -- the kids -- making it a family affair. NNY 360 - METERED SITE Indianapolis EMS responds to nearly 70 overdoses over weekend Indianapolis EMS were dispatched to nearly 70 overdoses over the course of three days this weekend, a grim reminder of Indiana's drug epidemic that has surged throughout the pandemic. According to officials, EMS paramedics and EMTs have administered the opioid reversing agent naloxone 255 times in the month of February. A stark 30 percent increase from one year prior when IEMS administered naloxone 194 times in February of 2021. "We don't see an end in sight right now and so what we're hoping is that citizens will take this issue very seriously," said Mark Liao, Medical Director of Indianapolis EMS. Naloxone is an overdose-reversal drug often known by the brand name Narcan. IEMS stated naloxone was administered 39 times over the weekend, 17 times on Friday, 10 times on Saturday and 12 times on Sunday.
