The Chicago Fire Department honored fallen firefighter Juan Bucio on Sunday, five years after he died on a dive mission. Bucio, 46, died in the Chicago River in 2018 while searching for a missing boater. Bucio had joined the CFD in 2003 and had been a member of the dive team since 2007. He was survived by his two sons. On Sunday, the department rang a bell in his memory at Engine 13, Truck 6, Battalion 1, Dive Truck 687 quarters in the Loop with his family in attendance.

The Peoria Fire Department is adding two new faces to its team, while addressing staffing issues and solutions in the process. Recruitment and retention have been two big priorities for the department. On Friday, PFD held a badge pinning and swearing-in ceremony for two additions to the department who Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger called "rock stars." "This is extremely unique for us," Sollberger said. "We had two firefighters fall on our laps that have already been trained, already educated with other departments." Sollberger said Jakob Johnson and Zachary Shubert were paramedic and EMT transfers from fire departments in Bloomington and Decatur. He said their backgrounds and experiences helped fast-track Peoria Fire's typical 16-week training and put the two men on the streets six weeks earlier than the rest of their class.

A house fire Friday night that leaves $90,000 in damages leaves one firefighter with minor injuries. The Rockford fire department was called around 10 p.m. to 3215 Sunnyside Dr. in Rockford for a house fire. The first units arrived on scene to find smoke and fire showing from an attached garage, according to Jimmy Krein from the Rockford Fire Department. Everyone was able to get out of the home by the time crews arrived. The department put out the fire in half an hour. The garage had heavy smoke damage which extended into the home. No residents were injured, but a Rockford firefighter suffered minor injuries. The Red Cross is also helping the people displaced by this fire. The cause is under investigation.

A massive fire engulfed an Uxbridge, Massachusetts, home Monday afternoon, with a video showing heavy fire and smoke shooting from the structure. First responders rushed to the duplex home on Linwood Street and saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home, extending to the upper floor of the structure. Video from the scene showed most of the home and backyard shed on fire. One firefighter suffered an eye injury, according to information obtained by WCVB at the scene. A second firefighter battling the blaze also received medical attention. State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal's office were heading to the scene to assist in the investigation, a spokesperson said.

VIDEO: A Coventry firefighter is recovering after the ceiling inside of a burning building collapsed on him Thursday afternoon. Firefighters rushed to a home on Mohawk Street following reports of smoke and flames shooting from the second floor. Acting Lieutenant Scott Brown with the Central Coventry Fire District was one of the first to arrive and assess the situation. "He was the first firefighter through the door [of the house]," Central Coventry Fire Captain Jim Almagno said. Almagno said Scott had knocked down most of the fire shortly before a portion of the ceiling and wall collapsed on top of him. Scott was thrown to the ground, according to Almagno, but immediately got back up and continued working after checking himself and his gear. It wasn't until Scott couldn't move his arm that he realized something was wrong.

VIDEO: Northern Kentucky firefighters came together over the holiday weekend to dedicate a firetruck to a fallen hero. Engine 2802 now bears a plaque commemorating the service of Alexandria firefighter Ken Temke. Temke joined the Alexandria Fire District in 1997 as a volunteer. On the morning of March 25, 2004, Temke was part of a crew returning to the station when he collapsed, the Northern Pendleton Fire District said. Crews worked to save Temke for several minutes and transported him to the hospital. Despite their efforts, Temke died shortly after arriving. According to his U.S. Fire Administration memorial, hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease was cited as his cause of death. His daughter, Becca, was just 6 years at the time of his death. "He was a man that loved his children, he did everything with us," she said.

VIDEO: A Heritage High School student has a warning for other kids after 76% of his body suffered burns when he tried a TikTok challenge. Mason and a group of friends saw people playing with lighters and spray paint cans on TikTok. They then decided to try it themselves trying to start a fire to stay warm, but the can blew up and flames engulfed his body. With second and third-degree burns all over his body he had to go through skin graft surgery and was intubated for about three weeks so he could recover. Doctors expected him to be in the hospital for about six months, but Friday he's up and walking and has a message for other kids. "Don't do stupid things. Don't try new things. Don't try to be different and make an impact and try to go viral," said Mason Dark.
