Peoria fire used the "Jaws of Life" to help a person trapped in a vehicle on I-74 near the University Street overpass at approximately 11:50 a.m. Monday. According to a Peoria fire press release, firefighters responded to the scene after they learned that a vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier wall. When they arrived on the scene, firefighters located a person trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters used a hydraulic spreader and cutting tool, or "The Jaws of Life" to remove the driver from the car, who was then transported to a local hospital's emergency room. The driver was believed to have no life-threatening injuries. The crash caused an estimated $10,000 in damages. Peoria police were also on the scene and provided traffic control, and investigated the collision.

Fire officials responded to a fire at Rich's Family Restaurant in Tilton early Monday morning. At approximately 3:35 a.m., crews were dispatched to the area of 2200 Georgetown Road after reports of smoke and flames coming from the roof. Upon arrival, crews found the source of flames coming from the ventilation system. Crews were able to control the fire with minimal damage to the building. The Village of Tilton shared on Facebook that Chief Richard Austin anticipates the restaurant will be open in the very near future to serve all their patrons once again.

More resources will be coming to the Peoria Fire Department that will improve services to residents. Starting Jan. 1, 2023, many changes will come to Peoria Fire Department Station 11 on Florence Avenue. One of the major changes includes the return of Engine 11 to the station to provide a water supply that has been vacant in central Peoria for over 20 years. Also starting on Jan. 1, the department will implement a jump crew with Rescue 1. Rescue 1 was decommissioned in 2019 due to budget cuts. Rescue squads carry vital rescue equipment that is utilized in many areas, but specifically in auto collisions with people who are trapped. Chief Shawn Sollberger said the changes will allow the department to serve Peoria more efficiently without hiring more personnel.

The Quincy City Council on Monday approved three amendments that nixed additional fire safety measures, including sprinklers, in new home construction. The city is in the process of adopting the 2018 series of the International Code Council model code. The amendments approved Monday stripped out the requirements for one- and two-family residential construction to include sprinkler systems, additional sheetrock on floor joists in basements and automatically closing doors leading between attached garages and the residence proper. Area homebuilders opposed the additional fire safety requirements citing costs. Quincy Fire Chief Bernie Vahlkamp and Deputy Chief Steve Salrin spoke to the council in opposition to the amendments.

Firefighters are battling a large fire burning at a home goods warehouse in Huntington Park. The fire was reported at Slauson Avenue and Soto Street in the community south of downtown Los Angeles. There were no immediate reports of injuries. Details about a cause were not immediately available. Firefighters were in defensive mode, meaning conditions inside the building were too dangerous for firefighters to enter the structure. The home good warehouse contained combustible items that fueled the fire. Several other businesses are located inside the building.

VIDEOS/PHOTOS: It was 42 years ago when fire and suffocating smoke raced through the MGM Grand Hotel killing 87 people and injuring more than 600. That tragedy led to sweeping safety changes stretching beyond the Las Vegas Strip. The fire happened in the original location of the MGM Grand Hotel which is now Bally's Las Vegas – but soon to be renamed Horseshoe. The electrical fire started in a restaurant creating a fireball that tore through the casino floor and sent smoke and fumes through the ventilation system into the hotel rooms where people were sleeping. Many of the deaths were due to smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning. "It was a major, major fire," said former Clark County Fire Department Chief Fire Investigator Mike Patterson. "It's indwelled upon my brain forever." Patterson says various factors, including zero sprinklers in the casino, contributed to the deadly aftermath that morning.

VIDEO: Just recently, Maine native and pro boxer Jason Quirk took home the American Boxing Federation's Middleweight Championship- right here in his home state. "I remember thinking, ‘This is the coolest thing that's ever happened in my life,'" Quirk said. "There was 3,000 people there, at one point they were all chanting my name. It gave me energy but I didn't want to change my game plan." Quirk, who hails from Portland, Maine, improved to a perfect 10-0 in his career, beating former champ Anthony Hines by unanimous decision to claim the belt. "I knew Anthony was a good opponent, it was an eight-round fight, which I had never done before," Quirk said. "I knew I was going to be in for a war." Quirk's also known as ‘The Fighting Fireman,' and works full-time with the Portland Fire Dept., a story that dates back to his days as an amateur fighter.

PHOTOS: This one isn't going down in flames. Fox News lit an enormous fireproof tree outside their Midtown headquarters on Monday night following last year's devastating arson attack. The 50-foot tall tree was unveiled at Fox Square in Midtown during a tree lighting hosted live by Greg Gutfeld, Judge Jeanine Pirro, Dana Perino, Jessica Tarlov and Jesse Watters. This Christmas tree comes a year after an unhinged firebug torched the 2021 tree outside Fox News' Midtown headquarters, creating a massive fire. The arsonist allegedly set the red, white and blue artificial tree ablaze after "thinking about lighting the tree on fire all day," according to police. Anchor Gutfeld joked on Monday, "[We will] hit that button to light this sucker up – and not in a bad way."
