| WFCA Introduces Phase 2 of its Wildland Fire Map

The Western Fire Chiefs Association (WFCA) announces the introduction of Phase 2 of its Fire Map, which launched in July of this year. Phase 2 includes 3D map views, reporting of active fire-fighting aircraft in real-time, and Fire Integrated Real-Time Intelligence System (FIRIS) specific to the state of California. | Over 90 Illinois Fire Departments receive Illinois American Water grants Illinois American Water has selected over 90 Illinois fire departments throughout their service area as recipients of the 2022 Firefighter Grant Program. Since the program was created in 2010, over 860 grants totaling over $856,000 have been awarded to fire and emergency organizations. This year, the grants awarded total over $96,000. "We know how important water is in protecting homes and businesses. We also understand resources to our local heroes can run short. This is why we approved every grant we received in full this year, supporting our heroes in a meaningful way." said Justin Ladner, Illinois American Water President. "The departments will utilize these funds to keep our customers and communities safe in emergency situations." The program awards grants to provide personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, training materials and classroom programs. WMBD-TV CBS 31 PEORIA Libertyville police, fire respond to house fire, explosion Libertyville officials responded to a report of an explosion and house fire Monday night. At about 6:40 p.m., Libertyville police and fire officials responded to a call of an explosion and structure fire at a residence located at 592 E. Golf Rd. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and searched the residence, officials said. The residence was unoccupied. Roadways surrounding the area were temporarily shut down. The incident is currently being investigated by the Liberty Police Department, the Liberty Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office. No additional information was provided by police. WFLD-TV FOX 32 CHICAGO Savoy Fire Department helps teach kids how to escape fires It's National Fire Prevention Week and the Savoy Fire Department will be teaching kids how to react when a fire happens. Kids will practice using the department's "safety house," which features a kitchen, bedroom, and a smoke machine. Families will learn how fires start and how to create an exit plan before anything happens. "You don't want to wait until there's an emergency to figure out what to do," said Eddie Bain, Savoy Fire Department's Public Information Officer. "When children are taught the right things to do, they usually respond quite well" WCCU-TV FOX 27 CHAMPAIGN Future of ambulance service uncertain in Pekin Pekin City leaders are looking to decide who should provide ambulance services as a 10-year contract is set to expire next summer. The city currently contracts with Advanced Medical Transport (AMT) for its ambulance services. At Monday night's council meeting, the fire chief did mention talk of the city potentially providing those services, but there was no movement on that. Councilmember and mayoral candidate Becky Cloyd mentioned she's been told some people were unhappy with AMT. "There are at least two sides to every story. And I'd like to be able to investigate what those allegations are," said AMT CEO, Andrew Rand. "In Pekin the consumer report rating that we get is so high here," Rand continued, "Praising our staff for how kind, caring and professional they were." Rand says AMT would like to continue their partnership with the City of Pekin. WEEK-TV NBC/ABC/CW+ 25 PEORIA Train derails after colliding with tractor-trailer in Hamilton County PHOTO: A train derailed after colliding with a tractor-trailer on Saturday, Oct. 8, in Hamilton County, Illinois. "Upon arrival the cab of the tractor trailer was on fire," Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post. "No injuries were sustained, and the occupant was out of the vehicle upon arrival." WSIL reported that the collision happened 10 miles east of McLeansboro, Illinois. The Evansville Western Railroad train collided with the truck at 5:42 p.m., causing it to derail. The farmland around the area was reportedly littered with coal and grain from the damaged train. | VIDEO: 2nd Alarm fire burns through Texas recycling plant Monday evening, Oct. 10, the Waco Fire Department responded to a call about a large commercial fire near Imperial Drive. Firefighters were responding to another call when they were dispatched to the fire, and were reportedly on the scene less than a minute after the call was placed. The fire took place at the Sunbright Recycling Plant at 701-A Texas Central Parkway, where large piles of material were ablaze. The department upgraded the fire to a 2nd Alarm soon after. A 2nd Alarm fire is one that requires multiple vehicles, equipment, and personnel to handle, but is not considered catastrophic. Lt. Keith Guillory of the Waco Fire Department said that units responded to the fire at 6:43 p.m., and that 15 units were on the scene at the time of his statement, including multiple vehicles and chief officers. Javi Guzman anxiously waited for his Make-A-Wish day for months due to the pandemic. Now, he is officially sworn in as the newest and youngest addition to the Hanover County firehouse. "He's been waiting for this day to come," his mom, Amy Guzman said. "Every time a siren goes past our house, he always runs outside." "As a little boy, I remember all the time when he was little, he said ‘I wanna be a firefighter one day' and I said ‘well, you have to work hard, one day you will,'" his dad Martin Guzman said. His wish was granted in a special ceremony and day of adventure, thanks to Make-A-Wish. "It was an easy yes without even having to consider it," Hanover Fire Chief Jethro Piland said. "Javi is truly an inspiration to us with his courageous and brave behavior." Megan Warfield splits her time serving others and volunteering at the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire and Rescue and working as a firefighter at Baltimore County Fire Department. Lately, she's been on administrative duty awaiting the birth of her third child, but that hasn't slowed down her need to help others. On Monday, Warfield and her mother had just finished hosting an annual golf tournament in remembrance of her father. Right as they were heading home, they found themselves in the middle of a multi-car crash. "After every vehicle kind of stopped, I made sure my mom was okay because she was driving and I realized that the car in front of us had flipped and that there was someone trapped inside," said Warfield. I was instantly greeted by friendly volunteers and was filled with awe as I looked further inside of the warehouse which was full of beautiful vintage firetrucks and other fire-related equipment. The SVFAA is the southern division of The Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America (SPAAMFAA) which was founded in New York in 1957.
