With more than 25 years of fire service experience, David Schweihs is set to become the next chief of the Northbrook Fire Department, pending the retirement of Andrew Carlson. Schweihs, who currently serves as the deputy chief of operations, will take over on Oct. 9. "The fire chief is a critical position within the Village. Dave's passion for the fire service and his deep dedication for those who work in such a demanding profession is evident," Northbrook Village Manager Cara Pavlicek said in a statement. "I am especially proud to be able to promote an internal leader who has the training, experience and institutional knowledge of Northbrook to ensure the continuity of the Department's operations following Chief Carlson's retirement."

PHOTO: Emergency responders quickly rushed to a business on fire in a small community in Randolph County Saturday afternoon. Multiple fire crews from across the area arrived in Shiloh Hill to find heavy smoke coming out of the business. Crews were able to knock down the fire to prevent further damage from happening. The structure was built in the early 1900's and has served as a leather smith business, a model-T repair shop and then became a small bar in the 1980's. Firefighters were able to put out the fire by cutting hole in the roof and used water to extinguish the flames. The owners say they are grateful for the firefighters response and say plan to fix the damage and move forward. We are told the facility has been a community staple for a very long time. Owners were busy getting ready to open the business when fire broke out in kitchen.

VIDEO: A driver and passenger were killed in an apparent street race when their vehicle crashed into a firetruck, injuring four crewmembers, in West Compton Tuesday. The crash was reported around 12:30 a.m. as the engine company was responding to a medical incident, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson Craig Little said. The truck was traveling down Avalon Boulevard when it was hit by the civilian vehicle traveling on Compton Boulevard, Little said. Four crewmembers were transported to a local hospital with non-critical injuries. "Unfortunately, the two members of the civilian vehicle were fatalities," he said. The victims were identified by a California Highway Patrol spokesperson as a man and a woman who were both about 30 years old.

VIDEO: A very scary situation, a 12-year-old boy now hospitalized after partaking in a TikTok challenge went wrong. "I woke up to him just screaming and I woke up so fast that I kicked the dog gate out of my door frame, and then I saw him, he was on fire," Tiffany Roper mother of 12-year-old boy said. Tiffany Roper recalls the horrifying night last week when she discovered her youngest child Corey wearing a polyester shirt that lit on fire. In her shock, she rushed to her son's aid. "I ended up grabbing my hose faucet from my sink and just spraying him down with water and flooding my kitchen until 9-1-1 got there," Roper said. "Unfortunately, my daughter heard it as well, so she woke up and got a towel and soaked in cold water and put it over him to try to help with the burns."

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A Prince George's County fire station was damaged after an ambulance caught fire early Sunday morning, the agency said. "We do have our share of fires in Prince George's County, but running a fire within one of our own fire stations is very unique," Department Public Information Director Alan Doubleday said. "It doesn't happen very often." According to Doubleday, it's believed the fire started in the engine compartment of the ambulance--which is a total loss. "The ambulance did burn with so much intensity, that it scorched the side of Rescue Squad 20," Doubleday said. At 5:12 a.m., smoke alarms alerted eight firefighters at the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department at 14915 Pratt Street station in Upper Marlboro. The ambulance was parked in the engine bay at the time the fire broke out, officials said.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The memory of the victims of the September 11th, 2001 attacks was on the minds of dozens of people at AT&T Field in Chattanooga Monday morning. With a week before the 22nd remembrance of that dark day, first responders and the public climbed stairs in their memory. 2,977 people lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attack. Some of them were firefighters who were trying to make their way to the top of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center when it collapsed. "They will actually climb the equivalent of 110 stories, which is obviously what the World Trade Center was," says Britt Bradshaw, coordinator for the stair climb event. "We do have some new people that come every year, families have started coming." AT&T Field saw dozens walk along the stairs in honor of those firefighters.
