A ComEd electrical vault caught fire in Chicago's West Loop on Wednesday morning. The Chicago Fire Department confirmed a Level 2 hazmat response was underway as heavy smoke and flames billowed from the electrical source at 113 North Green Street. A nearby hotel was evacuated. Hotel guest Michael Worrall told CBS News Chicago he was alerted of the evacuations over a loud speaker. He said he saw dark smoke. "From our angle we could not see if the smoke was coming from the building or from the sidewalk," Worrall said. CBS News Chicago's Kris Habermehl said the Chicago Fire Department could not fight the fire until ComEd crews cut the power source. This is expected to impact power throughout the area. Hotel guest Michael Worrall told CBS News Chicago he was alerted of the evacuations over a loud speaker.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District announced they have become the first fire department in McHenry County to begin carrying lifesaving cyanide poisoning treatment kits. The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District said last week that they have purchased CYANOKITs and stocked them on their fire apparatus. The lifesaving kits are designed to treat cyanide poisoning, which is a serious risk associated with smoke inhalation during fires, fire officials said. Cyanide exposure can be fatal and the cyano kits provide rapid and effective treatment to improve survival rates for victims. "Our dedicated team has undergone training to ensure the swift and effective use of these kits," the fire district said. CYANOKIT said that even though carbon monoxide is a well-known toxin in fire smoke, cyanide can be an overlooked danger.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Two decades ago, Hurricane Charley struck Central Florida, kicking off the busiest hurricane season on record that the region has ever seen. While far from the most powerful hurricane in the Sunshine State, Charley made landfall in 2004 around 100 miles south of Tampa as a Category 4 storm. Charley started out small, rapidly intensifying before striking the state's coast. But while the forecast model showed Charley potentially heading through Central Florida, many residents only looked at the center forecast line, which showed the storm passing through the state away from Orlando. "Orlando was technically in that cone of concern ahead of Charley. It's just everyone wanted to focus on that one line and it's something many people do at this one point 20 years later," said News 6 Chief Meteorologist Candace Campos. As a result, many people were unprepared when the storm arrived in Central Florida, according to NOAA.

VIDEO: Firehouse Subs, a chain co-founded by firefighters, is turning up the heat with its latest ad campaign, combining humor, community spirit and a catchy tune to celebrate its most popular item. The brand launched a new national advertising campaign centered around its popular Hook & Ladder sub, featuring real-life firefighters in a fun, fast-paced commercial. In the spot, three firefighters – Captain Jake Stuart from Baltimore, Firefighter Carlos David Drouet from Jersey City and Firefighter Gloria B Smith from Los Angeles – step into a recording studio to sing a jingle that's just as packed as the sandwich in question. But there's a comedic catch – as they sing, the list of ingredients keeps growing, forcing them to sing faster and faster to keep up with lines like, "Warm that smoky turkey and that thin-sliced honey ham, please" and "Melty cheese and toasty bread, mustard, mayo – perfect spread."

A local first responder is warning about a new drug, mostly seen combined with fentanyl, that is contributing to a dangerous trend in opioid-related overdoses in the Worcester area. Brian Rettger, who works for Worcester Emergency Medical Services at UMass Memorial Healthcare, told Boston.com he's seen a "significant spike" in opioid-related overdoses from late July into August around Worcester. The hospital confirmed that medetomidine, which hasn't previously been widely detected in the state, contributed to the spike in overdoses. "We have a poisoned drug supply," Melinde Castiel, Worcester's Commissioner of Health and Human Services, told Boston 25 News. Rettger and his colleagues initially thought the already-known adulterant xylazine, commonly called tranq, was causing overdose patients to remain lethargic for more than 12 hours after being revived with Narcan.
