Fire Chaplain program well underway at Peoria Fire Department The Peoria Fire Department has started a new Fire Chaplain Program to add support to their firefighters and the Peoria area community. Pastor William Preston has been named Lead Fire Chaplain for the department. His duties include adding emotional support to the firefighters and the communities in a time of hardship. The goal is to have one chaplain assigned to each of the twelve fire departments in Peoria, eleven positions have already been filled. The firefighters are welcome to talk to their chaplains about anything from a bad day at work to trauma they may have suffered on the job. "We want to be able to pray with them, if and when they desire that, or be able to talk through situations they want to talk through." Preston said. The Fire Chaplains will also serve the community in responding to accidents to support the victims. VIDEO: Burning incense ignites house fire in New York, officials say Fire officials battled a massive house fire in Roosevelt Wednesday morning. Authorities say flames broke out at around 4 a.m. on Catlin Avenue. Video shows fire officials battling the large flames that tore through the house. Officials determined that burning incense ignited a mattress in the basement of the home. No injuries have been reported. Authorities say all four people, including a grandmother, who live in the home were able to get out. One person was treated for smoke inhalation. Two pets were rescued from the fire, but another two are unaccounted for, authorities said. There is no word on the cause of the fire. WABC-TV ABC 7 NEW YORK Thefts targeting first responders have become 'cost of doing business' in Seattle VIDEO: A Seattle Fire Department crew was inside the Ballard Fred Meyer when a security guard rushed to warn them about people rummaging through their fire truck in the parking lot. The firefighters noted the guard was "shaking" as he told them he had just been chased by a group of men after yelling at them in an attempt to interrupt the theft. By the time the crew got back to their ladder truck, the thieves had made off with a generator, two chainsaws and two circular saws. In an email about the incident, a deputy chief noted that it appeared the thieves "know exactly which compartments to go to." "This robbery is a disappointing occurrence that has been repeated three times in recent months," an assistant chief wrote in an email about the thefts. KOMO-TV ABC 4 SEATTLE The Texas fire station where the afterlife shift never ends VIDEO/PHOTOS: As night falls over El Paso on a spine-chilling Halloween, there sits El Paso Fire Station No. 9. "It's over 100 years old, and we are haunted," said Jesse Esterline, EPFD Firefighter at station No. 9. Now, this station isn't like most. It's home to one of the oldest ghost stories in the department's history. In fact, the haunted station made its way onto 10 of America's most haunted fire stations, ranking in at number six on a list compiled by FireRescue1, an online industry resource for firefighters. Generations of firefighters come and go as they serve the city of El Paso, but there's one whose legend chooses to linger on. "If you're here long enough you become a believer," said Esterline.
