On the day that you stood at the altar, promising to love that man standing before you, there were likely five words that crossed your lips: “in sickness and in health.” Of course, most don’t imagine what that might look like as the years go on. But as Rachel Gilson reminds us today in “I Found Hope in My Husband’s Chronic Illness,” there is still beauty to be found in challenging circumstances.
Marriage is fun and adventerous and interesting at times, but there are other days—or even years—marked by loss and illness and grief. Whatever sort of season of marriage you find yourself in, Christ is in it, too. And that is something that can carry us through our days, come what may.
