Good morning Valued Subscriber,
It's one week from the ACT election and we have plenty to offer followers of our territory's politics a week out from polling day. Lucy Bladen has two important reads, one on Opposition Leader Elizabeth Lee and another on the key independents hoping to disrupt the status quo. And Jack Waterford weighs in, asking whether the Chief Minister's longevity will be seen as an asset or liability by voters. Lucy also reports on the very unedifying vandalism of political corflutes, which have prompted a complaint to police. A news highlight of this week in Canberra was the collapse of yet more building companies. Property reporter Lucinda Garbutt-Young spoke with an insolvency expert who predicted more pain was in store. Sally Pryor started her day yesterday chatting with one-time superstar DJ Fatboy Slim aka Norman ("that's what my friends call me") Cook. He's going to be playing a "middle-class bush doof" just up the road in Bowral as part of his "Summer's Biggest Rave" tour Down Under. It won't be Oasis big, but for those of us of a certain age, it will be nostalgic fun. And in sport, David Polkinghorne is not a happy camper after hearing the NRL is considering a crackdown on the play-the-balls. "Has history taught us nothing? Did we not learn from the last time there was an NRL crackdown on the play-the-ball?" he writes. We're looking at a nice weekend in Canberra. Today is expected to be sunny with a top of 20 and tomorrow much the same with a top of 22.
Have a great weekend. John-Paul Moloney, managing editor |
