standard—but, sadly, America is not currently governed by reason. A border guard could turn me away solely as a demonstration of power.
I’m not the only Canadian cancelling U.S. travel plans this summer. Some, like me, are acting out of fear. Others just don’t want to spend their money in Trump’s America. The one silver lining in this wretched state of affairs is that Canadians spend more money in Canada. Restaurants are already witnessing the trend. In April, the number of reservations at Canadian restaurants grew more than 20 per cent compared to last year.
And so, just in time for the summer, Maclean’s is publishing a guide to the coolest food destinations here in Canada. I love this package. It’s filled with rich details about extraordinary meals, some in faraway places, and the obsessive chefs behind those experiences. It’s a summer bucket list, free of any border-crossing anxiety.
