BY DEANNA B. NARVESON | Staff writer Mayor's race: Baton Rouge's 2024 mayoral election continues to break fundraising records as money pours into campaigns in the race's final days. Incumbent Democrat Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome is on pace to raise more than $1 million this cycle, eclipsing amounts she's raised in any of her previous campaigns for office. And while Republican Sid Edwards lags far behind the mayor's fundraising total, his supporters say the $220,000 he has raised — including support from Louisiana's state Republican party — is enough to mount a serious challenge to Broome.
