Federal grand jury indicts Vance Boelter on six counts related to lawmaker shootings

A grand jury formally indicted Vance Boelter on six counts of murder, stalking and firearms charges in the killing of former DFL Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark last month, as well as the shooting of Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette.

🚨 Public media funding is at risk 🚨
The White House has proposed a $1.1 billion cut to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, putting vital support for local stations like Minnesota Public Radio at risk. The Senate is expected to vote on public media funding in the coming days.  Please ask your senators to vote NO on the rescissions bill that would kill public media funding. Your voice has never been more important.

🏟️ St. Paul to host sporting event Transplant Games in 2028. Thousands of athletes who’ve had organ transplants will be competing in a series of sporting events in Minnesota when the 2028 Transplant Games come to the state. 

🚗 Minneapolis to launch traffic camera pilot program. City staff say the cameras will be running by September. The cameras will sense vehicles going more than ten miles per hour over the speed limit and snap a photo of the back license plate. Regulatory staff then review the photos and send out citations to vehicle owners.

🏛️ Duluth prison camp to remain open, reversing earlier decision to 'deactivate' the facility. Northeast Minnesota Republican Rep. Pete Stauber announced the prison camp would be staying open, more than seven months after the federal Bureau of Prisons announced it would be closed

⚖️ Family of man killed by Minneapolis police sues city, police officers. The lawsuit filed this week in federal court says Andrew Tekle Sundberg was in the midst of a mental health crisis, and his family accuses police of escalating the situation and failing to bring in mental health responders.

🚄 Amtrak reaches new milestone with Twin Cities to Chicago Borealis route. Amtrak said it reached the milestone over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The route operates under contracts with departments of transportation in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.

🐻 Authorities continue search for bear that seriously wounded woman in northwest Wisconsin. Wildlife officials continue to search for a black bear that seriously injured a woman outside her home in northwest Wisconsin last weekend.
