As if the rate of change isn’t quick enough, the coming together of AI agents and APIs is on the verge of bringing in new heightened levels of automated workflows and measurable value. Bill Doerrfeld covers it all in today’s lead feature, saying that “since APIs are already the lingua franca of digital infrastructure, they’re the natural bridge to make agentic AI truly actionable.” And CIOs are in a position to lead efforts by addressing the disconnects that impede interoperability, and steadily remove superfluous human touchpoints, given that API access allows agents to autonomously carry out highly dynamic workflows. “I see APIs as critical to enabling agentic AI within the enterprise, allowing seamless real-time connectivity between diverse data sources, which is required for these agentic solutions to fulfill their value to our business,” says Joel Chaplin, CIO at data management company Precisely. The conversations are ongoing in terms of how organizations are developing AI and API synergies, and the consensus is those that successfully do so will likely put daylight between them and everyone else.
