International Women's Day | Welcome Sky Brown | Look Inside the Book

Our Skate Schools around the world are safe spaces in which girls can play sports, access education and make new friends. 98% of female students surveyed in Afghanistan say their confidence has increased since joining Skateistan and in Cambodia this was 97%!

We encourage all of our students to be confident and to become leaders at Skateistan, in the wider community and ultimately the world.

Event Highlight: International Women's Day 2017

Every year we celebrate International Women's Day but this year we will celebrate all week. Today it was Afghanistan’s turn as they put on events at both Skate Schools. In Kabul, they showed appreciation for the female staff and community by giving some small gifts and then there was a skate demo by female Educators and students, followed by a football match. In Mazar, Skate and Create students painted for peace. Check out some photos from today on our blog.

Citizen Profile: Sky Brown: Skateboarder

Skateistan is proud to announce our newest Citizen of Skateistan as the inspirational skateboarder and positive force, Sky Brown. In 2016, aged 8, Sky became the youngest contestant to have ever competed in the Vans Pro Series tournament, highlighting her undeniable talent, passion and fighting spirit for her true love, skateboarding. Sky joins the Citizens to officially show her support of Skateistan’s work empowering youth through skateboarding and education in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa.

Look Inside The Book: The Story of Skateistan

Next week we will launch #lookinsidethebook - a week dedicated to the Skateistan book. We will be reminiscing on the beginning of Skateistan in Kabul and the journey of how skateboarding became a tool for empowering youth, in particular girls worldwide!
