Cyber resilience in banking:

Regulation, synergies & trust

Thursday 28 October | 15:00 CET  | ONLINE

Security is the cornerstone of successful digital transformation, especially in banking where trust lies at the heart of the relationship with customers. European banks drive their digital innovation in cooperation with multiple ICT service providers, composing an all-growing supply chain of third parties. Bank and non-bank actors in the chain, regulatory and supervisory authorities are striving for a high level of resilience and cybersecurity across the ecosystem.

As the EU legislator proposes a harmonized approach to operational resilience under the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), regulators and industry will discuss this advancing initiative and its effect on digital innovation. Taking place within the European Cybersecurity Month, this Digital Thursday showcases also the importance of cyber threat information sharing and other private sector initiatives, including raising awareness on cyber risks.

Competing in digital finance:
New rules for a new market

Thursday 4 November | 15:00 CET | ONLINE

The second Digital Thursday 2021 will focus on the evolving competition landscape in digital financial services and the challenges this poses to the ongoing digital transformation of banking and banks. Access to relevant infrastructure and data, as well as the supervisory framework, are key enablers to innovation. The event will discuss the importance of ensuring fair competition among participants in the digital market and will offer an exchange of views on some of the key policy debates such as the Digital Markets Act, access to and sharing of data, and the role Digital ID can play in this shifting landscape.

From payments to CBDCs:
Are we rethinking the financial ecosystem?

Thursday 18 November | 15:00 CET | ONLINE

The third Digital Thursday 2021 will focus on Central Bank Digital Currencies and payments. The event will discuss the phenomenon of CDBC globally and debate on the need for CBDCs for a global financial ecosystem. Experts will explore how CBDC issuance would change the role of central banks and the banking system overall, while providing insights on different CBDC projects that are underway.

The event also touches on potential integration of a digital euro into the European payments landscape: how does it fit together with the retail payments strategies of the European Commission and the ECB? And how does it affect the objective to develop ‘homegrown’ pan-European payment solutions and the new instant payments framework in Europe?
