Tuesday, February 4, 2025 IOC awards TelevisaUnivision exclusive media rights in Mexico through to 2032
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that TelevisaUnivision has acquired exclusive media rights on free-to air, pay television and digital platforms and non-exclusive radio rights in Mexico for every edition of the Olympic Games until 2032, including the right to sub-license media rights within Mexico.
The agreement was reached following a competitive tender, and it includes a commitment to at least 200 hours of free-to-air coverage of the Olympic Games, as well as free-to-air coverage of the Olympic Winter Games and Youth Olympic Games. The free-to-air broadcast will be complemented with pay TV coverage, as well as simulcast coverage on ViX, the company’s streaming platform.
IOC President Thomas Bach said: “On behalf of the IOC, I am delighted to announce this new, long-term agreement with TelevisaUnivision, which ensures comprehensive coverage of every Olympic Games edition until 2032 for viewers in Mexico. It follows great collaboration on the Olympic Games Paris 2024 between our organisations. A record 84 per cent of the potential global audience followed the Games. This equates to around five billion people, and underlines the massive success of the Games in Paris. This record-breaking reach was made possible thanks to our Media Rights-Holders, including TelevisaUnivision in Mexico. The partnership underlines the enduring importance and appeal of the Olympic Games around the world. The revenue generated from this agreement will be redistributed by the IOC to support sports organisations, athletes and sport around the world.”
Olek Loewenstein, President of Global Sports of TelevisaUnivision, stated: “We are delighted to sign this historic agreement with the IOC. Thanks to this, we will cover the Summer, Winter and Youth Olympic Games on all platforms in Mexico for the next eight years. Our coverage of Paris 2024, seen by millions, was key to our being selected by the IOC as partners and holders of its rights on all platforms in Mexico. Our commitment is to continue bringing the best Olympic coverage to every corner of our country and, at the same time, help strengthen the Olympic Movement and support Mexican athletes.”
The period covers the XXV Olympic Winter Games, Milano Cortina 2026, the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad Los Angeles 2028, the XXVI Olympic Winter Games, French Alps 2030 and the Games of the XXXV Olympiad, Brisbane 2032, as well as the Youth Olympic Games during this period.
