Good morning, folks. Welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Tuesday, Dec. 4. This might be a bit of a downer today, but we've got plenty to dive into — namely Taysom Hill's season-ending knee injury. Is this it? Our Jeff Duncan tackled an important question, one that unfortunately has to be asked after Hill's latest injury: Has the 34-year-old played his last game in the NFL? Hill will be 35 next season, is entering the last year of his contract and the Saints can get out of the deal. Jeff writes that he hopes that this isn't the end for the Saints' do-it-all weapon. "He plays the game with old-school passion and comports himself with a refreshing humility," Dunc wrote. "He's a unicorn in cleats and a joy to watch. "But if there aren’t more games, it certainly would be understandable." Replacing HillUnfortunately for the Saints, this isn't the first time they've had to go about trying to replace Hill. This time around, New Orleans could be getting two playmakers back to help them. The offensive line could get a boost, too. Interim coach Darren Rizzi said starting center Erik McCoy is expected to return this week, and guard Lucas Patrick could as well. The Saints have a hole at left guard with Nick Saldiveri also dealing with an extensive knee injury. Quick hittersOh, right. The Saints lost another game since the last time we talked. Make sure to check out our coverage on that, if you haven't: Our Luke Johnson did a nice job of breaking down the game, particularly the Saints' final fourth-down that they failed to convert. Columnist Rod Walker detailed how the Rizzi Magic fizzled against the Rams.I wrote about the Saints' run game, and how they tried to copy the Eagles' gameplan against Los Angeles — to mixed results. Anyway, that's all for now. We've got plenty more coming this week, so stay tuned for that. Take care, Matthew Paras |
