Credit: Reuters | A general strike is taking place across Israel to put pressure on the government to bring back the remaining Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. "We are getting body bags instead of a deal," said Arnon Bar-David, leader of one of the country's most powerful unions. It is unclear how widely the stoppage will be observed, but several businesses and public services are expected to take part. The recovery of the bodies of six hostages taken by Hamas during the deadly 7 October attacks in southern Israel has renewed criticism against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is accused of blocking a ceasefire and hostage release deal to prioritise his political survival. Sunday evening saw Israel's largest protests since the start of the war in Gaza - as Jon Donnison reports, there were chants of “murderer” directed at Mr Netanyahu. The prime minister blames Hamas for blocking a deal, insisting the group will be pursued and brought to account. Get the latest.
