Dear Voornaam,

It has happened.

The massively delayed and hideously over-budget Glen Sannox is moving. In fact it appears to have sailed far further down Clyde than expected.

Today marks the start of 'milestone' sea trials between Ferguson Marine shipyard in Port Glasgow and Greenock. The ferry is running six years late and not now due to start operating until late summer. But this is still a significant day, perhaps even the beginning of the end of this saga. There is of course another ferry, Glen Rosa, still to be finished...

Our Transport Correspondent Alastair Dalton who has been following every twist and turn in the story has the latest here where you can also watch us discussing the story on The Scotsman's daily video bulletin.

Politics-wise, Westminster Correspondent Alexander Brown has been looking into how a positive week for Labour has seemingly turned so sour. Keir Starmer had headed into this week planning to focus on the Kingswood and Wellingborough by-elections taking place on Thursday, only for his candidate in Rochdale to make comments on Israel and overshadow them completely. Azhar Ali has now been dropped in a deeply embarrassing blow for the party.

Meanwhile in sport, thoughts are turning to Scotland at the Euros this summer. Football writer Alan Pattullo today poses the question - is Lawrence Shankland the right man to lead the line? An impressive 25 goals for the season so far would certainly suggest the Hearts striker has a strong claim.

And as it is Shrove Tuesday, Food and Drink Editor Rosalind Erskine has your guide to an alternative pancake day, plus recipes from top Scottish chefs

Have a great evening,

Alan
