Greetings from frigid Fayetteville, Arkansas. On New Year's Day 1947, LSU and Arkansas played amid sleet, snow and freezing rain to a scoreless tie in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. It was a game that became known as the Ice Bowl. It won't be quite that bad when LSU plays Saturday at Arkansas, but it will be mighty cold. The forecast Friday was for the temperature to be 35 degrees for the 11 a.m. kickoff, which would make it one of the coldest LSU football games ever. No. 7-ranked LSU (7-2, 5-1 SEC) can clinch the SEC West on Saturday with a win and an Ole Miss loss to Alabama. But the weather and an always physical Arkansas team will make that challenging for the Tigers, who are coming off that epic 32-31 overtime win last Saturday against Alabama. If LSU is going to handle the Razorbacks' potent ground attack, it will need a great game from freshman linebacker Harold Perkins. The kind of performance he's been delivering in recent weeks. Our Wilson Alexander took a look at what makes Perkins such a talented Tiger. Even with a potent Perkins tormenting opposing offenses, this shapes up as a classic trap game for LSU. Leah Vann explores the dangers the Tigers face in this game, which will be televised on ESPN. Speaking of television, what were the obviously non-Cajun folks at the SEC Network trying to do with that Cajun — and I use the term very loosely — spelling of quarterback Jayden Daniels' name in that graphic Thursday on the network? Like when non-Louisianians try to put a Cajun spin on Baton Rouge by pronouncing it "Ba-tone Rooo-ge," this was a colorful spelling much too far. Back to the game, as we take a look at the Tigers' three keys to victory Saturday. Let's go inside the betting line, where LSU was up to a 3.5-point favorite Friday night, per Caesars/William Hill. Wondering which Arkansas players could give the Tigers their toughest test? We've got three to keep an eye on right here. Even with such a big game on tap, there's of course more going on in Tigerland than just football. The LSU women's basketball team returned to the court Friday night and obliterated its second straight opponent to start the season, Mississippi Valley State. Our Jim Kleinpeter also tells us of an LSU player who has already entered the transfer portal. Finally, the LSU men's team is back on the court for its second game Saturday, this against Arkansas State. Thanks for reading and subscribing to our newsletter.
