Sometimes LSU football games are just games, especially when the Tigers step out of the SEC to face a "rent-a-win" opponent they're almost certain to beat. LSU is a huge, 32-point favorite over Army for Saturday's game in Tiger Stadium (6:30 p.m., SEC Network), a game that would seem to have "rent-a-win" written all over it. But this is an historic game: the first time Army, or any service academy team, plays in Tiger Stadium and just the second time LSU will meet Army overall. The first meeting was way back in 1931, a 20-0 Army win at West Point. That was the year the put lights in Tiger Stadium for the first time, folks. Playing football for Army and attending the United States Military Academy is a huge commitment. Three Army players are from Baton Rouge, and you can meet them in this profile by Wilson Alexander. Reed Darcey, fresh from SEC Basketball Media Days in Birmingham, as always gives us his four keys to the game. And we'll tell you how LSU (5-2 overall, 4-1 SEC) can still win the SEC West. Sheldon Mickles takes a look at Week 8 in the SEC, a light schedule but with some heavy-hitting matchups. Reed has a profile on Angel Reese from basketball media days on how she aims to improve on being a virtually automatic double-double machine during LSU's NCAA championship run this past season. Finally, Wilson wants your questions for his weekly LSU mailbag. I know, the Army game won't have been played yet when you read this, but keep the link and drop him a line afterward. That's all for today, folks. Thanks so very much for reading and subscribing. We're thankful to have an "army" of readers like you. Get it? Army? I'll show myself out. Scott Rabalais |
