Good morning from Omaha. The College World Series final is finally here, as LSU (51-15) takes on Coastal Carolina (56-11) in a best-of-three series with the national championship at stake. For the Tigers, it would be their eighth and second in three years. For the Chanticleers it would be their second and first since 2016. That year, Coastal beat LSU in the super regional at Alex Box Stadium and beat Jay Johnson's first Arizona team in the CWS final. It doesn't mean LSU and its coach are now bent on revenge nine years later, but it an interesting intersection for two programs who have little other history with each other. Here's the full schedule: Game 1, 6 p.m. Saturday, ESPNGame 2, 1:30 p.m. Sunday, ABCGame 3, 6:30 p.m. Monday, ESPN (if necessary)I've got a column about the "zoo" full of LSU fans expected to descend on Omaha for the series, as well as the fact both teams feel they're fated to win the championship based on how they come into the final. Coastal has won 26 straight games over the past two months, while LSU seems to be able to come back lately from virtually any deficit. I've got three thoughts on the final in my Three Strikes feature, as well as a short story on what the heck is a Chanticleer anyway? Finally, former LSU athletic spokesman and long-time SEC spokesman Herb Vincent is being inducted later this month into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Thank you for reading and subscribing.
